I don't think Boren would risk an outright lie. As you suggested, he likes to use clintonoid tricks. I did a little parsing on one of his statements yesterday. It wasn't a lie, but it didn't parse out to what most casual listeners would think it meant.
For instance, when clinton said "There is no evidence" of some scandal or other, what he meant was that he had just shredded all the evidence and erased the hard drives.
So when Boren says nothing was picked up on any of the surveillance cameras, what does that mean? Possibly nothing was picked up because there weren't any cameras in place. Or maybe there was one camera and four gates. Or some variant like that. Or maybe they even picked something up but confiscated or wiped the video tape.
Since when does the MSM "have to cover" anything? They still haven't covered the swiftboat charges, they still haven't REALLY covered Rathergate, they still haven't covered the actions of the New Orleans Mayor and LA Governor during the storm.
They're too busy leading the charge against Delay and Rove. I mean, let the whole world know that ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, NPR, and PBS ARE NOTHING BUT FRONTS FOR THE DNC.
We know it and they know it. In fact, they don't even much pretend neutrality anymore. You think they are gonna cover a terrorist bomber in OK? Not a chance if it gives any momentum to Bush's WOT.
That's how I read it too -- he has been parsing all week and not doing a very good job either.
You picked up on that right away -- makes me wonder why he is doing this -- all he had to say was "I personally don't believe this was a terrorist attempt but I am grateful to the FBI and other agencies for being so thorough with their investigation. I will have no further comment until the investigation is complete but I want parents and friends to realize, we are doing everything possible to insure the safety of your student and the members of OU family."
I would have bought off on that but his spin from day one made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up -- he wasn't believeable then and he is less so now.

I don't know if I've ever seen an administration that engages in secrecy quite to the extent that this one does. It's really maddening at times.
There are articles coming from right wing media, but so far the only wire service report is about how threatened the area Muslims feel. Pretty funny.
I believe the story is being quashed for fear that anti-Muslim riots will spring up, as well as vigilante activity. There has been a very obvious effort by Bush (visiting the Mosque after 9/11) and the MSM (restrictions on WTC videos and vastly overreporting alleged anti-Muslim incidents). That, and as others have mentioned, the game$ must go on.

I think it's a real fear. I don't think it would take much to start an anti-Muslim backlash. Hell, if the local Muslims did half of what the Palestinians have been doing in Israel, there would be anti-Muslim civil war.
I think the danger is particularly acute in places like Oklahoma. PhiKapMom, correct me if I'm wrong, but I get the impression the Oklahoma is not particularly "sissified", if you know what I mean?
I can't believe that is the reason. Not that I don't believe that is a leftie fear. MSM sources love sensational stories and this is a MUSLIM-CONNECTED SUICIDE BOMB IN AMERICA. It doesn't make sense that all government and 99% of media sources are on the same page that this should be hushed up out of PC fears.
More likely is that the MSM were ordered to keep a tight lid on this story. Why?
We rotate with Texas on who puts the most murderers to death in capital punishment cases. Sissified and OK do not fit in the same sentence. :) This is oil, gas, and ranch country -- all of which are not occupations of sissified people. Lot of rodeo's, stock shows, hunting around here. If you want to get elected, you had better support the 2nd amendment!
