Republican California Congressman Darryl Issa just appeared on the Los Angeles John and Ken show, and explained that he did not say that Tom Tancredo of Colorado should be thrown out the Republican Party over Tancredo's support of Minuteman Jim Gilchrist. Gilchrist, a member of the American Independent Party is participating in a congressional race against Republican John Campbell. Gilchrist and Campbell are vying for the seat vacated by Chris Cox, who resigned to become chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Issa told the hosts that what he had said was an observation that the California Republican Party has a rule that says a member can be thrown out of the party for supporting a non-Republican against a Republican in a race. Issa says it was just an observation and that he did not suggest that Tancredo *should* be thrown out, and that Issa will be working with him in the future on illegal immigration and other issues. Issa is nevertheless critical of Tancredo's devoting energy and time in support of a non-Republican when there are lots of Republican candidates and causes to which he could lend a hand.
i hope that you folks understand that liberals/leftists are crapping their pants that tancredo might become the presidential nominee that is going to run on a no illegal alien platform... he has that kind of potential... as this problem of illegals gets worse and worse here in california, someone like gilchrist is bound to come out of nowhere and win a seat like this... i hope he does win, not because he is from a third party, but because his sole issue will be to shine the light of the backroom dealings (i hope) that goes on in the halls of the california state legislature with regards to illegal immigration and the pass that scumbag groups like mecha and la raza get...
Last night he was on with Scarborough criticizing the Meier appointment.
He's a congressman so it's unlikely he's had an opportunity to interview Ms. Meier.
Perhaps he makes judgements without facts.
everyone knows that Tancredo isn't going to be getting any Christmas cards from me anytime soon, BUT that said, there is most definitely a place in the GOP for someone like him.
Most of the time, he is over the top (Delay resigning, nuking Mecca), but him supporting a candidate other than whoever the GOP candidate is in a different state isn't that big a deal.
Now whether he will be a Presidential candidate, well history says no. I keep saying that if John Kasich couldn't do it, Tancredo won't either.
Issa's right, even it was wishful thinking.
I presume it would occur at the national level. I'm not sure what getting "thrown out" really means, though. I don't think you could prevent him from registering as a Republican, but maybe it would mean he'd get no support from other Republicans, no party campaign funds, no committee memberships, etc.
He did not do that. His comments have been misinterpreted hundreds of times on this site. He said that he thought the charges were trumped up and flase, but that it may be in the best interests of the party and DeLay for him to step aside until the matter was cleared up.
it doesn't matter in the perception driven world of politics what tancredo has said within his own party... most of the time, it didn't get into a blurb in any meaningful media stream much less the MSM... it really doesn't matter that tancredo is the current messenger of the message he set out to spread around the country... the fact of the matter is, is that a current member of congress has come out with this position of stopping illegal immigration and/or shutting down laws that support illegal aliens in this country... if not tancredo then someone else will take up the banner...
I respect that.
He needs not to jump out against other repubs who may have disagreed with him.
It's the grownup thing to do.

DeLay insisted he did nothing wrong or even illegal.....why should he step down.

No, and I agree that he should not have said it. All I am saying is that there are alot of people who do not like Tancredo, andbthey mis-represent his statements. I just want to make it clear that he did say that he thought DeLay was innocent, and that he thought the charges were politically motivated. He has even been very complimentary of DeLay in recent months. That is all I am saying, but I agree he should not have said it.
I called his office to offer support because his statement was in the context of the terrorists dropping a dirty bomb on an American city.
The media ignored that little part so I am aware that context is everything and I rarely get exercised about anything I hear from the MSM.
I was so disappointed in him for going on Scarborough who has been bashing the President on EVERY single topic.
And then to see Senator Allen jump on the bash Meier bandwagon just set me off!
These presidential candidate wannabes think that the president's poll numbers are down so they can enhance their own by bashing the president.

I don't disagree with you. I'm a big George Allen fan, and will be supporting him in 2008. My point is this, I'd rather have a party full of Tancredos than a party fill of Kolbes.
Don't know much about Allen but I want someone with STRONG foreign policy credentials.
While lots of folks think abortion is the most pressing issue of our time, I disagree. It's unlikely that any case will come before the Court to overturn all abortion. There will be cases pertaining to waiting periods and taking minors for abortions across state lines.
If Roe v Wade was overturned, it would be like Kelo, up to the states to make their own laws.
My urgent issue is national security and the continued cooperation of Britain, Australia, and our other coalition partners. A strengthening of our relationship with Pakistan whre many of the terrorists call home. More cooperation with India, etc.
I am doubtful that Allen has the strengths I am seeking.
I look for the Governors to take control of their own borders, their own cultural issues and leave the big stuff to the USSC.
I hope that the new Court will overturn the banning of The Ten Commandments from the public square, etc.
I agree with most of what you said, but I think Bush needs to get tough on illegal immigration, and I'm not at all happy with his nominee to head Immigration and customs, nor am I happy with his SC nominee. This was our chance to really leave a mark on the court, and I hate to think we blew it.

NY, CO, and many other states refuse to even report illegals who commit crimes. They offer instate tuition benefits, drivers' licenses, health care, etc.
This is maddening. Until each state cleans up it's act, nothing will change.
I'm glad you called Cong. Tom Tancredo's support to offer support for the statement he made on the Florida radio station. However, the statement was actually made in the context of a hypothetical concerning Islamic terrorists exploding nuclear devices in six (6), seven (7) or eight (8) U.S. cities, rather than a single dirty bomb.
Unfortunately, MikeinIraq repeated a lie when he referred to a comment made by Cong. Tancredo about "nuking Mecca". Cong. Tancredo has never made a statement advocating the nuking of Mecca.
I did not see either the comments by Cong. Tancredo or by Sen. Allen about Harriet Miers. I will not comment, therefore, on those statements. I wlll, however, comment about President Bush's selection of Harriet Miers.

Jones of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Souter was labeled a stealth justice by the press. Jones had already well established her conservative credentials.
As a United States Supreme Court justice, Souter has been a liberal. Is there a single occasion in which he voted with Justices Rehnquist, Scalia and Thomas in a single 5-4 vote? Meanwhile, Judge Edith H. Jones has continued to compile an outstanding conservative record.
Is there not a single conservative judge with a track record that President Bush could have picked over Harriet Miers? If being a woman was a requirement to be selected, was there not a single conservative female judge with a track record that President Bush could have picked over Harriet Miers? What was wrong with choosing a female judge with an outstanding conservative track record such as Harriet Miers?

I don't like to hear our guys bashing the president or other party members. We hve the dems and the media to do that.
Particularly when there is no proof as yet of the charges against DeLay or of the President's stupidity, weakness, ignorances, etc etc etc.
IMO, this is no time for a fight with congress.
We have to reaffirm the Patriot Act, make permanent the tax cuts, deal with social security, and get Sandra Day O'Connor back into retirement.
My world will not come to an end if abortion is not overturned. It will become a state issue, much like emanent domain....if the Court does overturn Roe v Wade.
Nothing that is being said against the President at this time sounds reasonable or sensible....to me!
