For pure AGEIST idiocy, this remark wins all contests. Ronald Reagan was 69 years old when he was inaugurated, and he served 8 years, during which he led the United States to recover morally and financially from the long mess after the assassinations, Viet Nam and assorted Carterage. People continue to develop intellectually throughout their lives if they are active and engaged. Miers is twenty years younger than the oldest justice on the SCOTUS -- have you even worked for twenty years? Ben Franklin was in his 80s when he worked on the U.S. Constitution and other key issues in the American Revolution. Get a grip.
Is there a reason that those with no real points are the most obnoxious? I'm saying, don't we want to put the youngest possible judges on the bench, like Roberts?

Roberts could step off a curb and get hit by a bus. Miers could live and work to 85 or beyond -- other justices have. There is also some utility in having a shorter term when you have such fierce opposition, which would only be galvanized into a frenzy if another "young" judge was perceived as "right-wing."
