There was a Washington Post article several years ago about PETA having the contract to run a DC animal shelter...that had a VERY high kill rate. People who would go in to adopt an animal would be told to come back the next day or after the weekend....and would arrive to find the animals had been killed. Apparently there is a strong almost cultish faction in PETA that attracts people who consider it better for an animal to be dead than for it to "belong" to somebody. These people are mentally ill and in some cities are being given contracts paid with tax dollars to run animal shelters.

In 2003, PETA euthanized over 85 percent of the animals it took in," said a press release from the lobby, "finding adoptive homes for just 14 percent. By comparison, the Norfolk (Va.) SPCA found adoptive homes for 73 percent of its animals and Virginia Beach SPCA adopted out 66 percent."

That really says it all doesn't it? Sort of like the slut who had an abortion because she couldn't stand the thought of somebody else raising her child.
