Voluntary quarantines are, IMO, useless.

My area has a large number of organic, no-vaccination, anti-Western-medicine folks. They have a pertussis epidemic nearly every year. This year, for the first time, the health officials have closed their alternative school. Still, the moms will wander about, holding a coughing infant, with another unvaccinatd child or two in tow and the prevalent conversation is about how it is no big deal.

Between this crowd and the religious exemption folks and the Amish, we are bracing for a measles epidemic. Our last one was in 1967.

We would need the military to enforce a quarantine. At that, it would just be regional, as I cannot see how they could enforce the old-fashioned, stay in your house sort that was common when I was a child.

Our herd immunity is severely compromised. I am due for a tetanus shot and am seriously thinking of updating my diphtheria and pertussis. I had all the other childhood diseases.

Now, our state has a draconian protocol in place for foot & mouth. A vet friend is in charge of implementation in this county. It would involve no one and nothing leaving or entering the affected farms, food deliveries to the base of the drive and a disinfectant regimen for anyone setting foot on or off the property. I believe the NG could be used to block the roads in that scenario, if needed, but it has been awhile since it was a topic of concern and I would have to check.

You have the CDC refusing to share info on this flu...very little vaccine which no one knows if it will work and a 55 % fatality rate. I guess we need the military to shoot the dying Americans who got shafted by their government who did not do the one thing they are mandated to do-national security. This flu certainly threatens national security.
