The administration of President George W. Bush broke the law as it resorted to illegal "covert propaganda" in trying to sell its key education initiative to the public, US congressional investigators have found.

The finding, made public by the Government Accountability Office added to a plethora of big and small ethics scandals besetting the administration and its top Republican allies and putting them on the defensive one year before congressional elections.

The investigation was ordered by Democratic Senators Edward Kennedy and Frank Lautenberg earlier this year, in the wake of reports the Education Department had paid newspaper columnist and television commentator Armstrong Williams thousands of dollars to help promote the No Child Left Behind Law.

Interesting, since No Child Left Behind was a Kennedy initiative. The rats got NCLB but the Repubs didn't get school vouchers. This is what you get when you make a deal with a DemonRat.

New talking point: "culture of corruption that pervades the White House and Republican leadership"

LOL! I guess the previous talking point of "incompetent administration" did not work out to well. Except to see rehashed Dem speechs with word 'corrupt' substituted for 'incompetent'.

By the way, I never new the Government Accounting Office was part of the judiciary.

The Dems are lucky, they don't need to pay the AP and MSM to spew their propaganda. Man, the libs are desperate. Well it beats coming up with ideas to help move the country forward.

A veritable plethora, eh? Seems like there isn't as many plethoras around as there was back before Howard Cosell died. He could find those things anywhere.

More from the article: (this is classic!)

"In statements that followed the GAO report, Senator Kennedy and Lautenberg demanded the misused money be returned to the government."

"The taxpayer funded propaganda coming from the White House is another sign of the culture of corruption that pervades the White House and Republican leadership," argued Kennedy.

Wow the irony of calling what happened covert propaganda is astounding. The problem is people paid by the administration potentially did something wrong, the administration did nothing wrong.

That's right, it was Kennedy's inititive.

Why wouldn't he want HIS idea publicized?

"Hey, I'm helping education"

Answer: NCLB was being publicized as BUSH's program, not Kennedy's.

"If I can't get credit, the I'll SUE!!!"

I wouldn't believe anything Edward Kennedy and Frank Lautenberg have to say.

It's just the usual battering by loopy libs.

a non starter, perhaps, but that's a pretty aggressive first line in that article. Rats have big balls. Funny what nature can teach us.

"AFP - A French news agency"

I wish they'd change their name...I keep on confusing them with the AP. It is difficult to discern based on article content.

Umm.. The whole Katrina furor is about the "incompetent administration" talking point. Actually, the Dems are melding the two with the talk about 'crony' appointments to head FEMA, etc.
