West side of NO
The farther east they go on I-40, the more Katrina evacuees they will meet.
That technology is so neat. I hope you get another message today from him.
Mike won't hesitate to shoot back...
Daybreak should start showing video and pix of devastation like southern LA/MS/AL had.
Rick Leventhall, FoxNews, said he is hearing reports of buildings with structural damage in the Lake Charles area.
NHC: Rita is now a Category 2.
He should be ok. The idiots are downtown, and the so is the flooding.
Lake P can't be up much, and the levees near him held before, they should hold now.
From that radar, it looks like the Sulphur/Lake Charles area is getting a break. Does anyone know what the sw part of this storm should bring to that area?
Please... no more.
But if any more do develop, I'll be the first to predict that Stan will be a wimp and do either a Nate or a Philippe... but Tammy will be a real beeeeeeeyotch.
I'm sending you two dozen apricot-colored roses and wishing you a speedy recovery.
Leni
Thanks for the updates.
Mike told me that some of his men were to be moved to Lake Charles today or tomorrow...and hat several Blackhawks from or home station here in Decatur Il have been ordered to report there..
I don't know if there's anything intact worth looting, after the pounding Lake Charles has taken.
Belle Chasse is south of Gretna in that part of NO where the Misissippi turns back to the southwest from the southeast. It is perhaps 5-10 miles from the Superdome. The base there is where a lot of the military have been staging from.
ailing STK orders, I was reading an article quoting some police resources that was pointing out that looting psychology is like rioting psychology in that most of them hope to get away with it by hiding in the crowd, so the key to stopping looting is zero tolerance right from the start. When it is allowed to escalate somebody is going to get hurt.
After a couple of days I resented them calling what was going on in NO "looting" because it was RIOT behavior by then, just like in L.A. 1992, shooting at anything remotely associated with whitey, and living lawlessly in the meantime.
The impression I am getting is that the damage from Rita is relatively minor to the damage that was forecast.
I hope Fox does not have it's cameras on the N.O. levees all of today, like they did yesterday.
Reports are for 10 to 20 inches.
That radar is missing a tile, the Lake Charles set is down.
Also you have to look at what's upstream for any of the coastal river areas.
Im just worried about wind damage and the building he's in...they covered all their supplies/equipment with tarps...I don't know about that though!
As Rite moves inland northward, she is hitting against a high pressure area.
There is a chance that that could either stall her, allowing her to drop many more inches of water, or, worst case, allow her to move southerly and gain strength.
TX/LA is not out of the woods by a long shot.
