Posted last night that shelter and food, etc. were available in Odessa, TX on I20. Just hear a rumor that there was no gas to be found east of Big Spring, TX all the way to Dallas. Any truth to this?
As of yesterday, there were only a few stations with gasoline in Austin. Cedar Park (on 183) was running out as well.
Kudos to Texas officials on the evacuation plan. It seems they filled the furtherest evacuation locations in Leander, Georgetown, etc, FIRST in order to allow the closer evacuation locations in Austin to remain available until the last minute.
We drove to Kerrville yesterday, and there were no lines or out-of-line prices twixt here and there. A sign outside one Chevron station in Fredericksburg advertised Regular Unleaded for $1.96. We refilled when we returned to Austin, about midnight, without any problem.
We saw little traffic in either direction on 290, and trailer parks in Kerrville had RV spaces available.
I can't remember the names, but some of the smaller towns off of I-45 had gas earlier today..
A lot of the local talk radio stations have been taking calls from people giving advice to evacuees as to alternate routes and gas stations that might have gas...
I think I heard the towns of Hubbard and Blooming Grove...
Dang---this was this morning though...so I don't know now...
