I get it now. He will go there later aftr the storm passes. In the meantime he will be in Colorado keeping an eye on things.

He was supposed to go to Ft. Sam Houston to meet with emergency teams prior to their deployment. They are already being moved out and repositioned, so there is no one there for him to meeet with.
Personally, I would like to see him go to Crawford and set up a command and control site and force all of the reporters to stand out in the rain.
And I think Dan Rather should finish his career by reporting, lashed to a telephone pole in Galveston.

President Bush CANCELLED the plan to go to the control center in Texas due to a S&R op ongoing in the vicinity; he didn't want him and his entourage interfering with it's success This is prudent and responsible behavior and I expect no less of him.
I sense another round of "Bush is a coward" accusations about to come from the DNC.
