On the question of how thought causes muscle action, it appears that William James discussed the mind-dust & dualism problems over a century ago. He is the eye in the hurricane.

It is interesting to me that the best ideas I have come up with on the subject were covered extensively by William James. That means four things:
1. I am late to the debate;
2. I am in good company;
3. the results so far are all inductive, and that is about as much as we have come to expect from science;
4. Einstein is right, but it is impossible to understand what he said since he was neither a professional philosopher nor a professional scientist.
