Reading the local newspaper and it’s the first I have heard of this.

Thanks pub’s for more bureaucracy and bigger government.

Sure it’s free now.

Let’s can this along with the need to register all your pets with the government too.

Amish oppose animal ID

Think this doesn’t affect you?

Do you have horses? Take them someplace in you horse trailer? Then not only do you need to have your horses chipped. But also you need your ID number.

This is only one example. Have a pet goat out back. Same thing.

And you know were all this leads to.

meanwhile, the feds do next to nothing to stop the flow of illegal aliens and criminals over our borders.

Government logic: Law abiding citizens are much easier to control than criminals, so let's go after them!

Is the "administrative rule" only in effect against Wisconsin farmers or all farmers and ranchers in the USA? And who ordered or legislated the "administrative rule?" Is it a federal pilot project, or was it done by Wisconsin politicians?

I thought it was the same state that had the Amish protest.

Some politicians have just way too much free time on their hands.

Over the last decades and under the guise of the combined wars on terror, crime, drugs, poverty, obesity, homelessness, secondhand smoke, road fatalities, tooth decay, and litter, the US Federal government has encroached, insinuated, maneuvered, litigated, bullied, and intimidated itself into every single aspect of American life without exception. George Orwell was only off by about twenty years.

A few things about those DOT numbers. They are required on all Commercial vehicles over 10,000lbs GCVW. Thus my employer has a DOT number on a pickup (7,500lbs) that often tows a trailer (5,000lbs).

In MD there is an exception for vehicles that go less than 100 miles from home and do not cross state lines (I think I remember). However the MD regulations are very similar to Federal standards. This is also the extent of my knowledge of this beyond that a vehicle with farm tags is regulated differently from those with commercial tags.

I also know that there are a number of people driving trucks with a registered weight of 15,000lbs without DOT numbers, since many of these vehicle do not appear that clearly to be that much heavier than a one ton truck. Think F-250 versus F-450.

This is more proof of exactly what I predicted in 2002.

Because the federal government will not control who enters the United States, it must turn itself into Big Brother and watch everyone as if we are all felons in a prison yard. The feds have to turn America into a police state because they have let the terrorists into our midst.

One of these days soon we will have to take back our country from the irresponsible morons running it...or lose freedom forever.

Farmers can obtain necessary USDOT number by contacting Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
April 13, 2005
To help ensure the safety of large trucks on roadways, most commercial motor vehicles-including those used in agricultural operations for transporting livestock and produce-must have a U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) identification number, according to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.....

Federal identification number needed for commercial motor vehicles used in agriculture in WI

It appears that this notification is almost 6 months old. I wonder if there was a "grace" period, that is now over and they are now enforcing the law. I am wondering if the "USDOT" requirement on vehicles is actually part of the 1994 changes to commercial trucking regulations, that were done under Clinton. An exemption would be given to vehicles if the state, that they were registered in, also had a State DOT registration, I don't think that WI has a program like that.

Also I think, that many states, farm vehicle exemption regulations are based on the understanding that the vehicles would be used on rural roads that separated a farmer's fields, to get from one field to another. Not to be used on Interstate highways

Also many may not be aware, that in WI, vehicle insurance is not required by the state. Something to think about, if you have an accident with someone, who drives a vehicle register in WI

Control the farmer, but let any old doofus with a standard drivers license herd a 40,000# motor home down the open road.
