"Reasonable" African Americans in New Orleans believe that the Bush administration engineered the levee breaks during Hurricane Katrina in a bid to save the city's white sections by flooding black neighborhoods, Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson said Sunday.
"I was stunned in New Orleans at how many black New Orleanians would tell me with real conviction that somehow the levee breaks had been engineered in order to save the French Quarter and the Garden District at the expense of the Lower Ninth Ward, which is almost all black," Robinson told NBC's "Meet the Press."
"These are not wild-eyed people," Robinson insisted. "These are reasonable, sober people who really believe that."
The levee break conspiracy theory parallels the plot outlined early last week by Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.
"I heard from a very reliable source who saw a 25 foot deep crater under the levee breach. It may have been blown up to destroy the black part of town and keep the white part dry," Farrakhan told a North Carolina audience.
The Washington Post columnist's report suggests that Farrakhan's poisonous theory appears to have gained currency.
Robinson said that while he doesn't believe the levee breaks were deliberately engineered, that fact that so many blacks do "tells you something about our racial divide in New Orleans."

Between the lousy education system in Louisiana, the welfare state, and radical leftists telling them that whites hate them, I'm not surprised to read this.

Wonder why they didn't believe the space aliens broke the levees conspiracy story.
What about the stories of the "Mother Wheel" that was seen hovering over the levees and firing photon torpedoes at them?
Of course, this is New Orleans we are talking about so what qualifies as "reasonable" is relative.
On the other hand there is the view; does it matter what they believe?

What a shame. Even the dumbest of dumbest know that it was not just their area but a great portion of white areas that were flooded.
Lets be fair and show the faces of Lakeview, Bucktown, Old Metairie, St Bernard Parish. Mostly white. These areas lost a lot more.
Who is making most of the contributions to the Katrina funds? Bet the faces are white too.

No they are not. They are far from reasonable, in fact they are just the opposite. They are simply reasoning that this is the perfect time to show their true feelings towards white folks.
What do these "reasonable" people in New Orleans believe is to explain for the lack of buses deployed to help people get out of the city?
Damn, now I have to call my one of my best friends and tell him that he's black and all his inlaws are too. They all lost their homes in the Lakefront area.
