Prayers for Vice President Cheney and his family.

I think the office has no acting VP, VP Cheney is it. Were something to happen to him, the President would appoint someone who would be voted on by the Senate. Someone will surely correct me if I'm wrong I.

Contrary to everyone's opinion here at FR, I am wrong once in a great while. ;-)

In related news, lawyers flock to Cheney and suggest suing the maker of the hurricane generator machine for causing the aneurysm.

9 days! Whoa.

Thank you for telling us what the surgery entails as I had no idea.

Hope you're healing well now.

Just was watching Scarborough..(ick)...but he had on the Roll Call reporter that "broke" the story about Cheney's surgery...

I got in on the last few minutes of interview, but Joe said to her..."I hear "they" weren't too happy with you breaking this story?"

And the reporter said something like..."Oh, Joe, I was on Chris Matthews show tonight and he kept asking me to tell him between 1 and 10...how mad were they that I broke it"...giggle, giggle...

Joe then said, "Well, no numbers, but I am sure they didn't want this out...especially with his heart problems, and him being 65 years old and all"....

Then, he said that "we will be watching this hugh story..."..

I hate Scarborough, Chrissy Matthews, and all of MSNBC!

I had that same surgery. I was out of the hospital after two days and driving two days after that. I limped and hurt for quite a while though.

One of the more uncomfortable parts is all the staples, high up on the inner thigh where they harvest the greater saphenous vein.

I found out about my problem after I threw a blood clot and lost the blood flow below my knee. The Doctor cut a nerve, so my calf is numb and will probably remain that way. The last thing I remember before succumbing to anesthesia, was the nurse saying " Why isn't a vascular surgeon doing this? Most people have a vascular surgeon do this operation" I found it odd that they never disclosed that before. Jeeze, I guess he must have stayed at Holiday Inn Express the night before or something.

At least the Doctor was better than the hospital.

I think Cheney will be fine.

"Sounds like something they'll do with local or epidural anesthesia."

While they may do it under epidural or spinal anesthesia, they sure won't do it under local.

I just wish I was still on the Anesthesia Staff at NNMC so I could do his anesthesia myself....and unless he had reservations/fears, I would indeed do it under epidural anesthesia.

Indeed he was which indicates to me that if it was that serious he would not have been doing so

All the news releases seem to be saying local though I suppose it depends on your definition of local

Well, epidurals and spinals use "local" anesthetics to produce the block...and there is NO requirement for sedatives/anesthetics per se (if the block is good) so perhaps this is what they meant....

He could be entirely awake in there with an epidural or spinal block....just like me when I had my hernia repaired. You just have to be willing to lay there and be awake!

From what one sees publicly of him I would think that would not be a problem he seems a patient and strong minded man.

Also he has had many procedures over the years and is obviously used to being pulled about by the medical profession so I am sure he is approaching this one in a very positive action.

I am sure it helps with pre op mental attitude to know he has the love and support of his family in particular a wife whom it is obvious cares deeply for him as he does for her.
