Some states already have this requirement for trucks and buses. A chunk of ice flying off the roof of a car can cause a lot of damage to your vehicle . . . a chunk of ice falling off the top of an 18-wheeler can be deadly.

True. But you are much more likely to get killed when one of the tires shreds and goes through your windshield.

how does one get a 20 foot ladder into the cab of a 18 wheeler to be able to climb up and clean the snow off the top of the trailer? How about not following so close to the person in front of you.

Really? Ive never run across it.
And remember, a 13'7" overpass cleans off the top of a 13'6" truck quite nicely, thank-you.

a chunk of ice falling off the top of an 18-wheeler can be deadly. My dad, who's a truckdriver, had that happened once. The truck in front of him and over one lane had a giant slab of ice slide off and when it fell it hit my dad's passenger window flat and blew it in. He had about a 30" round hole in his window and glass all over the inside of the cab.
He said he was really lucky it didn't hit on the driver's side. It probably would have killed him, or caused a really bad accident.
