If there's a security issue with regard to Castro-affiliated businesses, then the response is to investigate such businesses for violating trade sanctions against him. What is rebuilding New Orleans going to do, except enable those businesses to be up and running faster? Not spending money to rebuild it is more likely to tip the balance towards businessmen who weren't already set up in New Orleans, because they won't be digging themselves out of a financial hole.
And people thought I was cheap sice I've hid my wallet in my rectum for years. Now I'm going to get the last laugh because no one is sgoing up there to get it but me.
I seen estimates of over 200Billion... What percentage of that was taxes from those 3 states? 50 States that would be 6% 12Billion out of 200Billion that they provided.(i knows its probably less than that given that those are "poor" states)
Sorry, but that's just plain ridiculous. A major city is, for all intents and purposes, destroyed and he's just supposed to say, "Sorry, y'all! Sure sucks to be you." You honestly expected that?
You have a better grasp on this situation than most Americans. Unfortunately, we are a miseducated country, thanks to government schools.
Private enterprise should be the ones making the decision to rebuild the area. If there's an economic reason, it will happen. The government's role should be to step out of the way.
But when's the llast time you heard of a politician acting like that?
But the next 5 will raise them and bush will be blamed for it and ruining the economy.
Wait and watch...
Market can't provide incentives if it isn't making any money. Bottom line first.
5 to 10 years from now it'll happen again. Also, I hope you all know that hurrican season is NOT OVER? In fact, it's just starting.
Florida is a good vacation spot but not to live.
I'm convinced.
The era of LBJ-Bush - Great Society - begins. I'll be quitting work and waiting for my welfare check.
I hear ya!!! Good grief!!!
>>>If there's a security issue with regard to Castro-affiliated businesses, then the response is to investigate such businesses for violating trade sanctions against him.
Those investigations are in progress.

If New Orleans is not rebuilt, it is subject to be condemned which will leave the opportunity for development with people that have business affiliations with the corrupt Louisianna Government who is still currently in control who are still currently being investigated.
The legit businesses are in a financial hole.
The corrupt ones are not and are still being chased. They have other locations within the US and around the globe.
New Orleans is a port access to the Mississippi. We, in the USA have other ports that access the Mississippi; but that is NOT an access that any of us want to make available to enemy eliments.
We all scream, 'secure our borders'. Well, this is a border. One that goes right up the river.
It's going to take a lot of money. And America has money. In spades."
Exaclty how is President Bush going to spend our money in spades to "lift people out of poverty," keep them from living in slums, let their children grow up in safety and keep them free of drugs and crime?
Because it seems to me that we've been doing exactly that, spending our money in spades on those problems for the last 40 years. The nicest thing you can say about the result is that it has destroyed the inner city family, destroyed inner city family values, and created unprecedented poverty crime and drug use. And slums. The worst thing that can be said about it is that it has potentially changed the entire founding concept of our nation to the concept of the founding of the Republic of France. Which is ominous, to me.
IMO, anything other than temporary help makes things much worse. Without getting into whether the federal government is the appropriate agency for charity, I will admit to being in favor of temporary help. Lots of it.
But regardless of how much Bush spends on the Gulf Coast, it will do no good unless the investors, businessmen, and property owners rebuild. Which they will do if government doesn't get in the way. And that rebuilding effort will provide tons of jobs, maybe some folks can get off welfare and start getting ahead.
And it provides for specific powers toward that goal. Rebuilding cities after disasters is not among the powers listed.
The existence of New Orleans is in the National interest.
I have every bit of confidence that the market can determine the utility of having a port in that location. If it's useful to have one, money will flow there through the normal operations of the market.
The line has been crossed.

A Texas Resident
