Exactly. Either there is a rule of law or there is not. Our moral principles are not a substitute for the law. (Hopefully they support each other, but not necessarily.) Lawyers have to be able to argue both sides in order to effectively argue their side. No big deal, unless the lawyer becomes an "opinion" leader in a particular area, e.g., Gay Rights. We want judges who follow the law not create it. That is the litmus test.

too late.

That model only leads to the "ratchet effect". When conservatives are dominant then nothing changes. When leftists are dominant then everything pushes left. The result is only a leftward push.

We MUST start pushing back to the right. Then and only then will precident matter. We must correct the wrong decisions in order to make the correct decisions.

That is what I was taught, if I ever decide to go to law school I hope that I do not jettison my morals, but giving legal advice and moral guidance can be two different fish.
