He spent 3 freaking hours on it, he did not condone it, just gave an opinion on strategy! God! A lawyer that defends a murderer or rapist does not endorse murder or rape. Let's think like adults, eh?

Exactly. Either there is a rule of law or there is not. Our moral principles are not a substitute for the law. (Hopefully they support each other, but not necessarily.) Lawyers have to be able to argue both sides in order to effectively argue their side. No big deal, unless the lawyer becomes an "opinion" leader in a particular area, e.g., Gay Rights. We want judges who follow the law not create it. That is the litmus test.
