"The center is further east than earlier thought as well. The more time that goes on, the more it seems Ophelia may end up barely hitting the coast.. if at all."

Very good news. I hope this holds true. We need the rain really badly. But never need the wind or the spinoff tornadoes.

(I am in central NC - near Raleigh - right up I40 from Wilmington - with lots of tall thick pines surrounding my home).

Looks like it will be on top of my house sometime Wednesday, though.

Keep her over there--my memories of Hugo are not good. We could use some rain but not at the price of a 'cane.

0z models continued trending east. I think she's going to end up missing, or just brushing the outer banks.

Same here, only without the tall, thick pines.

Man, all I can think to say is, "Oh Geez, not this sh*t again!" (Where's that pic, BTW?)

I grew up on the coast--never experienced a hurricane. I move over 100 miles inland, and bam-bam-bam, Fran, Floyd & Isabel...I think I've made my hurricane quota. Fran was the worst of the 3 around here, but we lived in an apartment at the time, Floyd wasn't all that bad wind-wise, but just the 60-70mph gusts we got here with Isabel was enough to put me off hurricanes forever. Sitting helplessly in your own home listening to the wind and your house make noises you never knew it could make and calculating the relative height of the trees in your backyard vs. their distance from your house gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Was eastern NC hit at all last year (Sept 04) by Hurricane Frances or Ivan?
