I'm not sure I understand Buchanan here. I would have thought he of all people would have an understanding of the limits of federal power. In the wake of Katrina, it's my hope that more Americans get a better understanding of both the role of the federal government and the role of each state's power and responsibility.
>Had half that sum been spent fortifying the levees of Lake Pontchartrain, New Orleans would not be underwater today.<
I seriously doubt this statement. And, let's be realistic, had the Feds given Louisiana an additional 1/4 of a million dollars for the levees, there are even odds the funds would have ended up fueling the corruption of the state's greedy politicians.
I am disappointed in Mr Buchanan, but not surprised that he would take this opportunity to bash Republicans yet again, in a period of crisis.
I see so many on this site thay if there is ANY adverse discussion of this adminstration it is called bashing. Pat has pointed out the absolute basic problems that this nation has to confront. Can't Pat make a case for the $286 Billion highway bill that this "Two-Party Cartel" passed with $24 Billion in waist? Don't you think that we should get off of foreign oil? If so & if this is as important as many think don't we need leadership that will make a case for us to drill here in America or use closed bases as new refineries or best yet go to the much safer nuclear energy aspect? I see no leadership by anyone in Washington. Until we get critical of this "Two-Party Cartel" nothing in large proportion is going to change. (We hear all of this Bush bashing from the left & as 100% predictibale nothing from the conservative pols in Washington - the eunichs of this cartel) and Pat is called the basher.
