Rudolph Giuliani and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, New York's most popular politicians, see a lot of things differently. You can now add Hurricane Katrina to the list.
Clinton, D-N.Y., is pounding the Bush administration's handling of the crisis, calling for an independent commission to investigate delays in aid, and an overhaul of federal emergency organization.
Giuliani, the former Republican mayor of New York City, has stayed out of the debate, even as some Republicans have urged that he be named to take over the federal response. Before a speech Tuesday night in Norfolk, Va., Giuliani told reporters that he was willing to help the recovery effort in some way, but discounted the notion he could be dropped into the multistate crisis and improve things.
The man dubbed "America's Mayor" for his leadership following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, said it was not helpful to question decision-makers while the rescue work is ongoing.
"I don't know that I'd want, at this point, to be a critic," Giuliani said in Wednesday's edition of the Virginian-Pilot.
Giuliani, who penned a book called "Leadership," said the facts don't yet show if the response was slow, or if any agencies or individuals are at fault.
"It's not the most constructive thing to do," he said, until "you get yourself out of the emergency."
The Rev. Harry Crandall, who attended the speech to the Norfolk Forum, said the mayor hinted he'd been more forceful in private conversations with officials.
"He said he didn't think it was right to speak out now, and that he had strong opinions and has expressed them to the right people," Crandall said Wednesday.

* Full care and compensation for Katrina victims All victims of this crisis should be fully compensated for all losses by the federal government. Free medical care for all those in need. Ensure that all affected people receive a stable income to get back on their feet after this tragedy. All those who have lost their jobs, have been displaced, or in need from the affected counties should receive a living wage of $500/week for up to 3 years. Immediate interest-free loans for workers, small businesses, small farmers who had their livelihood destroyed in the hurricane.
* Initiate massive public works program to re-build & re-employ the Gulf Coast Immediately begin the construction of decent, affordable public housing in the safe areas for all those in need due to the hurricane. Employ the jobless victims of Katrina in public works programs to rebuild the counties affected. All rebuilding and relief workers must receive a living wage with union rights and benefits. Ensure the homes, workplaces, schools and streets of New Orleans are cleansed of the toxic contamination caused by the flooded sewage and oil and chemical spills.
It comes down to this.

Hey Doogle did you hear Major Garrett talk about that on Fox (Brit)? Said the Red Cross was all ready to supply the Superdome and Conv. Cntr with water, etc. but couldn't get in because the LA dept of homeland security (state level) wouldn't let them.
correction: hillereee is NOTHING. Rudy is EVERYTHING.
I don't know if I would go quite that far. He is a real leader and he did clean up NYC...but he isn't taking away my Ruger .357 (and I'm not really a gun guy, really just a "self defense/be prepared" kind of person).

I lived in NYC for a long time (career thing). I guess it worked for Rudy there (density)...but I was born and raised in the South, and I am home again. I would vote for Rudy but he won't get my Ruger.
I know that many here on FR would disagree, but if Rudy runs for president he would very likely get my vote.

He may have been a gun grabber as mayor, but remember that it was NYC we're talking about, the bluest of the blue - to be pro gun there would be political suicide. The fact is that the guy can get things done and, most importantly, he genuinely cares. In these troubled times those are two qualities our country most definitely needs.
I agree! I prefer a candidate that I have seen under pressure. And we have seen Rudy at his worst (and at his best).
The only issue still open for me is how he feels about Israel.
I am an evangelical Christian (a wannabe Jew)...if Rudy is for Israel...I will work for his election committee.
On the other hand, I once wished for Condi...but her position at present re: Gaza leaves me hungry for more honesty as to Islam.
ha,ha...I'm a yankee out west. :) I would vote for Rudy in a heartbeat but I agree...hang onto your gun.
Blanco also wouldn't allow JW Marriott to send buses to get hotel guests and employees out of the area. She sat on it for two days.
I think she had a death wish for everyone.
