Bush's overextended empire must be reined in [Buchanan isolationist rant]
The Mercury News ^ | Sep 07, 2005 | By Patrick J. Buchanan

Posted on 09/07/2005 8:04:30 AM PDT by johnny7

Make no mistake. Summer is over for America -- and George Bush. That unifying image of Bush atop the pile of debris in Lower Manhattan days after Sept. 11 has been displaced by ugly accusations and recriminations over who lost New Orleans. Katrina has exposed the limits of federal power and the absence of a serious set of national priorities.

In New Orleans, those who relied on government -- the New Orleans police, the mayor, Gov. Blanco, FEMA -- suffered most. Those who relied on themselves for food, water and safety from marauding mobs of rapists and looters, with guns in their homes, fared best. Ultimately, U.S. and National Guard troops had to provide the security before government agencies and volunteers could do their rescue work.

Pat Buchanan will say whatever to get attention. Honestly, this guy was well jettisoned by the Republican Party. Securing our borders and fighting a pre-emptive war against terror sponsoring nations are not mutually exclusive.

Pat Buchanan's SS Sturbenfurer hat on too tight, again, apparently. Cuts off the blood.

You might try bugmenot.com for a login. I was going to do so, then thought better of it. Why go through the trouble to read anything this pig has to say. Apologies to pigs.

Pat, you have been wrong on every single thing you have said since 9-11. Why do you think you are suddenly going to be right on this one? You are a loser Pat. Call us when you ACTUALLY win an election. We might take you seriously then.

"Summer is over for America"

Actually Pat, summer is not over until September 22nd.

P.S. Great job during your presidential runs.

Go Pat!

He held the line for all those years under Clinton, back when CNN was considered "alternative". People should show some respect.

This wasn't Bush's first time at the hurricane rodeo. The two HIIC( Head Idiots In Charge) of LA didn't know what the f*ck they were doing. They played bitter and deadly politics until the end.

Buchanan is indeed a ranter, but he is right about people relying too much on the government to provide every answer to their problems.

Of course, but he has become hysterical hanging out with the elites, I guess it rubs off.

I swear, next we'll see Pat running down the street with two DVD players under his arms.

Agree on respect; Pat has some great convictions (immigration) but his message lately always seems to be anti-Bush first, and ideas second.

Despite my extreme distaste for Buchanan, he makes one point here that is hard to argue against.

He notes that those who were self-reliant survived this disaster. In that, he is absolutely correct. Those who rely on the government to protect them in extreme circumstances are likely to be disappointed, as we've seen.

Had I lived in New Orleans, I would have left the city on Friday and would have been at my 80-year-old parents home in California on Sunday afternoon, where I would stay until it was safe to return. But that's me. I'm not one to stay in a place where a natural disaster is predicted to occur in two or three days.
