It's a nightmare of epic porportions. It's changed the face of this small Southern town, forever. It's changed my perception of our Politicians, forever. I've never felt so betrayed in my life.

Firstly, we ARE a small town. When the dead vote we only number about 50,000. We are over 50% black. Our resources are limited. This last mayoral election should have said it all. The only reason I didn't vote for the black Mayoral, DEMOCRAT canidate, was because he was radically prejudiced against white people. This white, republican Mayor won by the skin of his teeth. We can't afford him, don't like him, and he has done nothing but build monuments to himself. HAD that opponent done anything we could build on, we would have elected him.

As it is now, I'm supporting a recall effort!!!!!

Hang tight FReeper FRiend. We learn about our politicians, our insurance & our FRiends when the going gets tough.

Don't now worry about the recall etc. (JUST MHO).. get your feet on the ground, hug & love those dear to you, thank God you are spared & then seek to find the way you can make a difference.

Part of me thinks that the corrupt situation there will be hard to fight.. and maybe this is your fight.. but maybe you can make a difference in some oder ways.

Prayers for God's guidance IS YOUR FRIEND!

Sometimes it is necessary to do things we don't like but down the road we see we are better for it. What if it was your town that was obliterated and everything you knew was changed in an instant?

My city has been nearly doubled but where do we put these people? I finally braved Walmart and I could tell things were different but what I noticed was there are a whole lot of people who are still shell shocked, lost and desperate. They are frantic and hopeless right now. It's up to us to be there for them because one day it could be us.

There is a church here in town that is converting their Sunday School building into apartments for permanent housing and they are currently housing 150 people, other churches are doing the same thing. One family here has 37 family members staying in their little house with one bathroom but all are thankful for being alive.

It's only been one week since the levee broke and it is an adjustment period for everybody but hey we at least have our homes and family intact.
