This thread is for Katrina news and updates.
Of course, he is touring a lily white neighborhood. I'm sure the residents are suffering in their beach block homes, but he'll get criticized about the location.
NO: Huntington Beach officer praises FEMA, prays for those displaced
Excerpt posted on Free Republic....
This is a federal installation now, a closed facility. We've fenced off the entire area - about 25 acres - with an 8-foot chain-link fence.
I'm stationed at the front gate, and wear a black tactical uniform and black ball cap. I'm armed with a .357 pistol. I work 12- to 16-hour days.
The refrigerated trucks can collect and bring in about 120-150 people a day. Seventeen trucks came in yesterday.
They are collecting lots of bodies.....
NO has been a drain on the state for so long and hopefully the light will be shone brightly on all of the corruption once and for all.
Is Shep Smith with Cheney?
Did you just hear that guy walk by and say "Go F yourself, Cheney?"
And I swear Shep Smith butted in and said, "Are you getting a lot of that, Mr. Cheney?"
Tragically - especially in light of the criminal stupidity of Blanco, et al - a death toll under 10,000 will likely, w/hindsight, be considered 'fortunate'.
I think it's a mistake to use MTBE as a fuel oxygenate, and never should have been mandated. But it's not the health risk that many paint it as.
On the chemical end, I'd be more concerned about pesticides, gasoline & benzene than with MTBE. And at this point, my guess is that the e coli is a bigger and more immediate health hazard.
Seriously ?
Was it Nagin ?
~~ VP decks Nagin, says: "It felt really good" ~~
He tried hard two times to pin him down about Pelosi saying no Democrats would attend or be on the committee that the President is calling for....... to investigate what has happened with the disastrous Kratina.
Good news, if true. The legislature is nominally the voice of the people, and if they don't kick this bum to the curb, then their jobs ought to be given to a fresh legislature.
atFights have broke out, sick people have collasped.
Anyone else notice the Carole from FNC has a flack jacket on.....is this bullet proof?
My God, what a mess!
Freepers rule-Thank you.I just realize my friend -Sister Elizabeth goes down all the time and I am down the street from the Mother House-duh.
Don't they have to testify if called by congress???
I saw a clip last night on the TXCN about a stomach virus being prevelant among those in the Dome, including evacuees, police, workers, etc. So I suspect this isn't helping matters at the moment.
If Congress calls the head of the NG in LA, he would have to testify when Blanco called in the Guard.
I am thinking that the reason that Pelosi is saying she won't let any democrats participate in a bi-cameral, bi-partisan congressional investigation, is because she has been told....
That with what Major Garrett has already found out, and what is likely to be found out....subpoenaing and putting the GOV. and Mayor of LA on "trial" is not such a good idea...
So, if she b!tches about the commission not being independent like that bogus 9/11 Commission, then it will never happen, but she/they will blame Bush and the GOP for not playing FAIR!!!
Of course, that is all I have come up with so far...
BTW, in the HOUSE today, the dems are seeing a smorgasbord of $$$$$$ being handed out and they are talking about paying for college, new housing, all medical care, everything for these victims...hold on to your purses!!!
Barbara Bush wasn't far wrong when she said those victims will end up better off. Those who didn't lose a loved one, of course. Holding on to my wallet tight.
Thanks for the info about Pelosi. I hadn't realized she didn't want Democrats serving on a commission.
FNC says that President Bush is scheduled to speak about Katrina in about a half hour.
Where was this reported? I'm figuring it won't be reported on CNN because it would take away from the victim status of the evacuees.
I've been told via freepmail that some evacuees are threatening lawsuits of those caring for them in shelters. You know -- not fast enough care, not good enough, blah blah blah.
