American Muslims Open Convention (Karen Hughes delivers speech)

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Karen Hughes, one of President Bush's closest advisers, told a gathering of American Muslims on Friday that part of her new State Department job is to help amplify the voices of groups like theirs that are condemning terrorism and religious extremism.

The Islamic Society of North America had invited Bush to attend its annual convention. He sent Hughes, who was recently confirmed as undersecretary of state for public diplomacy. Her tasks include improving the U.S. image in Muslims countries.

"We need to foster a sense of common interest and common values among Americans and people of different faiths and different cultures," Hughes said at a news conference opening the three-day event.

"Frankly, who better to do that than many of our American Muslims themselves, who have friends and families and roots in countries across our world," she said.

The Indiana-based ISNA serves as an umbrella association for Muslim groups and mosques in the United States and Canada. Its convention comes just over a month after U.S. Muslim scholars issued a fatwa, or religious edict, condemning terrorism following deadly terrorist attacks this summer in London and Egypt.

"The fatwa says that there is no justification in Islam for terrorism. Those are words the entire world needs to hear," Hughes said. "And in delivering that message, I know that the most credible voices are of Muslims themselves. My job is to help amplify and magnify these voices."

At the news conference, ISNA unveiled a brochure outlining the Islamic position against terrorism and religious extremism. The pamphlet states that terrorism "is the epitome of injustice because it targets innocent people."

Kareem Irfan chaired the committee that produced the brochure and will be launching other initiatives to promote what ISNA calls "balanced Islam."

Despite "crystal clear statements stating the position of Islam and Muslims" against terrorism, there remains "inklings of doubt from segments of society," he said.

He said convention attendees, expected to total more than 30,000, will be asked to sign a pledge stating that they agree with the pamphlet's position, and it will be distributed to mosques and churches.

The convention was also attended by a 19-member delegation from Britain, where four suicide bombers killed 52 commuters on London's transit system in July.

The British group held a private meeting with Hughes, and she also met separately with ISNA leaders, women and young people.

ISNA's vice president, Ingrid Mattson, said those attending the meetings with Hughes were frank about their disagreements with the Bush administration on everything from foreign policy to concerns over the erosion of civil liberties.

Several told her about the problems they regularly have with air travel because their Muslim names or dress prompt suspicion. One man who was supposed to be in a Thursday night meeting with Hughes walked in at the end because he was held by airport security for three hours until his name was cleared, Mattson said.

"The fatwa says that there is no justification in Islam for terrorism. Those are words the entire world needs to hear," Hughes said. "And in delivering that message, I know that the most credible voices are of Muslims themselves. My job is to help amplify and magnify these voices."

Fatwa, my fanny. These Islamic ninnies may live in the 7th century, but they cannot expect that we will join them in their exercise in time travel.

The fatwa issued against terror does not have the same power as that issued against Salman Rushdie...one fatwa says "phooey on you" and the other says "here's a huge financial reward for dispatching the object of said fatwa."

So solly Islam...we ain't as frikken dumb as you would like us to be. Wishing doesn't make it so.

Islam thinks Western civilization is stupid (and of course to some degree they are correct)...but compared to Islam, the Judeo/Christian world is "light and sublimity".

Our God actually loves us...REALLY LOVES US...GAVE HIS SON FOR US.

Allah wants us all to die.

I am sorry to inform Karen Hughes and this Administration
and the rest of our feckless politicians, that I have no use for even the "good" Muslims. How did it ever come to pass that they have ANY power or influence on our lives and our nation????

Obviously, it is the article you are taking issue with and not me.

That said, I agree. Islam must die. It is the responsibility of the non-Islamic world to challenge the "truth" of Islam...and it is the responsibilty of the Islamic world to defend that religion of anger and hatred...Islam.

The truth can withstand the white hot light of reason. Let's see if Islam is true!

If I had a terminal disease, instead of copping out by using Oregon's 'Assisted Suicide Law', I would give my life to all Western Civilization peoples by driving a bus armed with the most potent thermonuclear device ever created right into the HEART of Mecca! (NOT KIDDING!) WE too have a God, (HE is their God also, but they cannot see that because from the time of Abraham they have been corrupted by envy), and He said , "Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many", so would I too give mine. I would regret the loss of the innocents and ponder the fate of the corrupt, but the end result would not be for me to judge. HE also said, "There is no greater love than for a 'living being' to give 'it's' life for a friend.

In reality, I would give my life for a stranger. I hope you would too.

The moral...Learn right from wrong and live your life accordingly. Stand up and defend those who are rightous spiritually, but weak phisically. Put an end to 46,000,000 dead babies since Roe vs Wade! Turn your back on no one...speak the Truth to them...they will back down or they will kill you. So what! In 1,006 1/2 years from now Satan is going to be released from bondage to unleash one final futal effort to take you all who live by the NEW COVENANT to ETERNAL death. "and in the fires they shall burn" '1' Enoch

FLAME ME NOW UNBELIEVERS! It is your misfortune...not mine.

How did it ever come to pass that they have ANY power or influence on our lives and our nation????

A few years ago, pre-GWBush, there was a change in our immigration policy: make the US population look like the world, i.e.: quotas to ensure that our population had a certain percentage of each ethnic group, to match the worldwide percentages. Diversity for diversity's sake. The idea caught on and has been embraced by policy engineers at every level of government. If you live in any large American city, check out your local courthouse sometime.

Do Muslims really worship the same God as Jews and Christians? There's many who doubt that. For one thing, our God doesn't tell us to commit murder-suicide on the innocent.

German American Bund Opens Convention (Francis Perkins delivers speech)

"The fatwa says that there is no justification in Islam for terrorism
=====
THAT is proof that Islam IS a religion of TERROR, when it has to clarify to such an extent as passing a Fatwa that there is no justification for terrorism. NO SHI!TE.

Now if there were any decency at all in this religion of crap they call Islam, they would pass the same kind of fatwa that they passed against Salmon Rushdie for writing a book, A FATWAH OF DEATH.

And they would issue it against Osama Bin Ladin.

But among the ONE BILLION PLUS moslems, NOT ONE has issued a fatwa of death against OBL . I guess the next fatwa the moslems pass will be one that clarifies that writing a books is not as bad as terrorism. Yeah thats it.

Once the faithful of the religion of eternal intercourse, figure that out - they will get right to the task of issueing a fatwa of death on OBL.

Then FDR said, "Remember everyone, Nazism is an ideology of PEACE."

Another masterpiece from fallujah-nuker.
