I'm afraid the anarchy we've all seen in New Orleans is going to be headed north real soon. I've talked to several people this afternoon who have tried to purchase gasoline. One ran out while in line and took a one-gallon can to the pump. She was turned away under the Jackson Mayor's new rules: no containers. The local tv stations report that many other residents who still don't have power were denied the ability to purchase 5 gallons of gas for their generators. The shelters here are begging for volunteers because many of those who have been helping can't get there because they don't have gas. If this situation is not alleviated very soon, I fear that we are going to see more and more violence here. People are hot, tired, hungry, and need to go to work in order to make a living. They can't do it if they can't get gas.
why is violence, or the threat of violence, always a perceived solution to problems like this? what are they going to do, start shooting their neighboors, starting looting and burning. what the hell for?
We here in Vicksburg, have at least one police car at all gas stations to control the lines and maintain order, but even with their presence, tempers are flaring.
.Why don't they ask 1 member of each family being housed, to work at the shelter, since it is now thier home for short term....JUST A THOUGHT.
Unfortunately the need for gas has us all by the shorthairs.
No gasoline containers? That's BS! Ooops, better dump some more change into the cyber swear jar....
