Just got home from a wedding. The warnings about gas this weekend are either 1) true or 2) giving station owners carte blache to gouge.
Example: as of 12:45am EST, a major gas station in Kingsbridge, Bronx had caution tape over the pumps with signs saying "out of regular and plus" Of course you could get premium for $3.89.
I'm definitely NOT for high gas prices, but it may be the only thing that will keep people from wasting it when it is needed right now more in the south. In other words, if the price keeps some people from making their usual 6 hours both ways drive for the holiday weekend...then so be it.
Gouged? Report it here:

We're at $2.89 for regular at the cheapest places. It was $2.59 last week. 110 miles SW of Houston.
President Bush cautioned us to conserve fuel right now. As a result, I've heard a multitude of stories relating that people are hoarding gasoline. Learned tonight there were near-riots at gas stations in Charlotte NC, and that every tank, can, tea cup and saucer around the Queen City is now filled with gasoline.
