Yep. There's too much force in surge. Only things that can survive it are exotic, ridiculously expensive buildings like "The Dome Home" in Pensacola.
The solution is to simply not build any more buildings intended for permanent habitation in the potential storm surge zones from Brownsville to Montauk. If people want to spend a vacation on the beach, you have a small, flimsy vacation cottage on the immediate beach, with the permanent buildings, restaurants, etc. 3-4 miles inland.
Your doctor can prescribe a month's supply for you. Any pharmacy will fill it.
Agreed that Bush needs to turn the PR battle around. A lot of this PR wreckage could be reversed in part if they would just get some damned water bottles and essentials to the Convention Center.
Soap operas I watch when I'm home from work (hanging head in shame).
This is making me sick. On WWL they are talking about it being the feds fault. They are saying that Nagin is a hero for being the one to speak up and tell the President that this is what needs to be done and needs to be done now. They are making some big deal about the President's point man not knowing on Thursday about the convention center. Well, it freaking sounds like the GOVERNOR didn't know about those people!!
Again, this was because they did not use the inbound lanes of the interstates for outbound traffic. They do this in Florida every time a hurricane threatens.
Incompetence is the reason. Nothing else.
You mean like they did *yesterday*?
WWL had footage of a water drop just outside the CC.
I'm sure you also meant to mention that it would save some lives as well...:-)
MSM is gonna give the governor a pass, and she too will turn on Bush within 48 hours -- you can see it already.
As I have stated before ---- incompetence. Nothing else.
She's already done that once, then supported Bush, then attacked him, then supported him... You get the idea.
Signed, post 9/11 Freeper, therefore also newbie
I know that, and saw people with water bottles there, but the MSM is reporting exactly the opposite. Regretably, perception is reality.
Main Entry: ref·u·gee
Pronunciation: "re-fyu-'jE, 're-fyu-"
Function: noun
Etymology: French réfugié, past participle of (se) réfugier to take refuge, from Latin refugium
Oh man this is gonna get ridiculous now!
They did that. All day the day before the storm came in and part of the day before that.
That was so funny! Some people complained, but my heart is breaking, and laughter is a small bit of medicine. I'm sure others agree with me.
Agreed.
I noticed that CNN and MSNBC managed to rotate their reporters at the Convention Center for the past couple of days. Did they bother to tell anyone that they had 15,000 people there in desperate need?
I guess I just can't comprehend that they were able to move in and out for two days, but the City couldn't manage the same trip.
Andy Card had better pass the word to Blanco and Miss Mary that if they don't stay on the President's team, he will give the area his benign neglect in future budgetary requests.
