"I seem to remember hearing that the Indian tribal name Algonquin means "Eaters of men"."

No, it means fish-spearing-place.

You are a victim of the Zinn school of revisionism and lies. Moreover you sound like a pulp history freshman.

Hope this helps clarify what I think of your hysteric historic propaganda.

When Columbus landed, the new research suggests, the Western Hemisphere wasn't filled with scattered bands of ecologically pure hunters and gatherers. Instead, it was a thriving, diverse place; a tumult of languages, trade, and culture

Then it was already overpopulated.

You have swallowed whole the popular version of PC history.

Try reading Maddens'a article here for an accurate portrayal of Spain and the inquisition

http://www.crisismagazine.com/october2003/madden.htm

As for Serbia and the Mooslems - this might help awake you from your stupor

http://www.srpska-mreza.com/History/pre-wwOne/Bosnia-tyrannized.html

The rest of your drivel is beneath contempt...the realization that history is written more than ocasssionally by those who political/religious/ideological axes to grind might help you with a more objective reading of history in the future.

IIRC, the tomahawk was introduced by the British traders

What is this - fantasy time? Talk about condescension....

"The term "tomahawk" is a derivation of the Algonquian words "tamahak" or "tamahakan" "

"a dominant weapon across much of the continent, usually appearing at the side of the native warriors."

From the encyclopedia link in the link you posted on Kosovo:

"Kosovo is the term deeply embedded in the Serbian national consciousness - it draws from the 1389 Serbian defeat by the Turks. "

Kosovo Polje is the "field of blackbirds" as they call the place where the Serbian army was destroyed.

"Some Serbian nobles and peasants converted to Islam in order to reap privileges by serving the foreign oppressor. Their offspring are today's Bosnian Muslims."

So, as I'm reading you, the Kosovars don't have any right to be there. The fact that they are descendents of Serbs who converted to Islam seems to matter not at all to you. That is how the Serbs see it, anyway. Racial traitors, they call the Kosovars. I said both sides committed atrocities, I meant it. Some of my knowledge of the subject comes from reading, some from classes I've taken, and some from people who worked with me whom I sent to Sarajevo and Tuzla, in the mid-1990's. "You have swallowed whole the popular version of PC history." No, I've learned from a multitude of sources that history is never simple. You've swallowed the whole "Islam is evil" thing, yourself. Islam is a bunch of people. Some are good. Some are bad. Some are variable. Try reading a little more history yourself. Christians are the same way.

"The term "tomahawk" is a derivation of the Algonquian words "tamahak" or "tamahakan" "

This is a source?

Try this:

"TOMAHAWK. The fighting axe of the North American Indians. Originally, these weapons had stone heads and short wooden handles. The stone heads gave place to iron ones shortly after the coming of the whites. Tomahawks generally have narrow hatchet blades, frequently backed by a pipe bowl. The handles are of wood, and hollow, forming the pipestems. They are of two main types, those procured from the English were of much simpler forms than those of French make. They were used in throwing as well as striking. Fig. 794.

"The Caribbean is named for the Caribe Indians. Very definitely cannibals."

I suspect that their eating habits have been a little exaggerated. Most of the sources that say the Caribs were cannibals also say the Arawaks were pacifists, however the Caribs did not occupy most of the Lesser Antilles until after the Arawaks were decimated (mostly by disease).

Jared Diamond in his book "Guns, Germs, and Steel" says that one of the things that Montezuma did to offend the Spaniards was to offer them the flesh of the sacrificed victims. The Aztecs had one of the most bloody religions I know of, and they had to do something with all of those corpses.

Do you not think Europeans are just as likely to commit atrocities as Indians? Oh come now to deny the brutal massacres that took place during the reformation, Christians killing christians in the name of christ, on both sides or the inquisition is such foolishness. There are two extremes here. Im not saying the indians are innocent, but Europe tends to do the same things under the guise of "Civilization".

Must have been another tribe. Pretty sure I read that. I know I've read first person reports of cannibalism among the Indians in Colonial times.

There was some cannibalism, yes.

Among N. American Indians, it was not generally for meat and sustenance, but for ceremonial and symbolic reasons, to take a bite of one's brave, vanquished foe both to exult in the victory by rending his flesh, but also to take into yourself a degree of his spirit. This was not universal, and it varied by tribe. The Ottawa at one point within historical memory were cannibalistic. The Chippewa were not. When the Ottawa moved into lands alongside their Chippewa cousins, they abandoned the practice.

North America is big, and had a lot of tribes and nations. To speak of the Indians in general by speaking of a specific subset is to speak of London and Dublin by giving details of Sarajevo.

their smallpox infested blankets.

Myth.

There is exactly one case where this may have occurred. And in that case, it is not clear if it was done intentionally. And that instance involved a British officer, prior to the American Revolution.

America gets a lot of criticism for wiping out Indians through disease and biological warfare. It wasn't us. It wasn't the United States of America. And most likely it wasn't anyone at all, at least as far as a deliberate policy was involved.

It's all just a myth created to make White people look bad.

Sorry I didn't realize it was sarcasm. Adding a [/sarcasm] can be helpful.

Many people really believe the small pox blanket story, and I never miss an opportunity to point out that it's a lie. I'm glad you already knew it to be false.

I usually do, although this time i thought it wasn't necessary. Probably wasn't as obvious as i thought.

You may not know it but most of my posts are sarcastic. That's my MO. It's my way of pointing out blatant lies and hypocracy. That is the first thing i look for in articles put out by the MSM.
