Governor says entire city (New Orleans) needs to be evacuated

With conditions in the hurricane-ravaged city of New Orleans rapidly deteriorating, Gov. Kathleen Blanco said Tuesday that everyone still in the city, now huddled in the Superdome and other rescue centers, needs to be evacuated.

"The situation is untenable," Blanco said, pausing to choke back tears at a news conference. "It's just heartbreaking."

The breach of two levees Tuesday meant the city was rapidly filling with water and the prospect of having power was a long time off, the governor said. She said the storm also severed a major water main, leaving the city without drinkable water.

"The goal is to bring enough supplies to sustain the people until we can establish a network to get them out," Blanco said.

FEMA is considering putting people on cruise ships, in tent cities, mobile home parks, or so-called floating dormitories, boats FEMA normally uses to house its own employees, said Coordinating Director Bill Lokey.

I would evacuate the city at any cost when Hurricane Center issued the forecast of Katrina aiming on NO 2 days or more before disaster struck? Is it that difficult to figure out?

I would like to see you evac 1.4 million people in 48 hours.

Are there vicious animals wandering around?? Surely some of them would escape and survive long enough to cause some problems!

Yes there are vicious animals wandering around, and they apparently have big-screen plasma TVs, along with shoes and handbags. And slung rifles, according to MSNBC.

Listen, friend, The state of Louisiana and the city of New Orleans will come out of this mess just fine. Do you really think that Kathleen Blanco and that Moron Mayor in New Orleans have any say in this tragedy? The movers and shakers come from the business community, oil, shipping and tourism. GW Bush, Bobby Jindal, etc. and the military, FEMA etc. will provide the leadership to restore order and bring back sanitary, liveable conditions. This city has hundreds of years of fantastic history and culture behind it, and it is a critical path point and location in the American economy for both oil and shipping. It will be restored, rebuilt, and be better than ever because American will and desire will make it happen. But, the present Mayor and Governor will not play any substantial role whatsoever. They both don't have a clue.

The mayor said he doesn't feel like the situation in New Orleans is out of control.

Also took a bit of a jab there at the end towards Bush being on vacation.

He realy did not seem to know anything worth talking about. Pretty sad.

----Do you really think that Kathleen Blanco and that Moron Mayor in New Orleans have any say in this tragedy?----

Waaaaaaaaait a minute! If Blanco and Nagin are powerless to do anything, then why is the value I should place on my friends' and neighbors' lives connected to their (Blanco and Nagin's) incumbency?

How about kids under voting age? Do they deserve whatever they get too?

Dig! Dig! Dig!

>> But N.O. just might be the first U.S. metro casualty in the long term rise in sea level.

Any scientific basis to that statement whatsoever?

Sorry friend, you just don't get it, do you? The Governor and the Mayor are useless individuals. The good people of Louisiana chose them as leaders, but they just proved they can't lead a thirsty horse to water. So what happens, as so often happens in a leadership void, someone or some group steps forward and measures up. In this case, it's the Prez, Jindal, and the business community. Get it! In spite of their poor judgement, the folks in Louisiana and New Orleans will come back stronger than ever. Now, instead of ranting dig, dig, dig, maybe you will finally get it. Anyway, have a great and enjoyable evening. I need my sleep. It was great jostling with you!!! Good night!!!

Tonight I'm asking the Lord to help all those affected by the hurricane, particularly the children and the law enforcement trying to maintain order there. I also can't help but add a PS to my prayer thanking the Lord for the treeless, flat, semi-arid, very much inland part of Texas in which I live.

read about the wackos over at DU claiming that Bush had 4 years to prevent these types of natural disasters and did nothing.

I think I saw that thread. We read it for the comic relief, but they are serious. And seriously deluded.

I read about the wackos over at DU claiming that Bush had 4 years to prevent these types of natural disasters and did nothing.

Hence my rant. What is wrong with them, really? Deluded. But the logical question is, what then did Clintoon do for the 8 years prior to that? If he had done his job, the work they feel Bush should do, there would be no problem, there would be peace and tranquil weather and abundant species of protected animals, blah, blah, blah. They don't even recognize the flaw in their 'logic'.

They also claimed that the military is able to manipulate the weather and this was all timed to take the MSM away from Cindy.

And they are not locked in padded cells. Wow. This is real life, not a movie like the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen or the X-men.

I wish they were kidding but they were not. The people over at DU need some serious help.

Yes! So true. (Hear that, DU trolls...) I am going to re-read it. It's both funny and delusional. Unbelievable that real adult people can believe this.

Didn't you know Halliburton did it with top secret weather control devices from Dick Cheney's basement to make George Bush's oil buddies rich? Besides, Jeb Bush had no business letting that hurricane skip Florida...

Truly delusional aren't they.  I decided to see if I could find the original thread over at DU but couldn't.

I did stumble onto a thread about Bush going to NO on Friday.  Here are the highlights:

Didn't the President already say that...like TWO DAYS before the hurricane hit?

Shhhh ... it's a secret.  And LA is a red state, wait till he gets around to the blue states.

Problem is, some idiots over at DU are probably already discussing this!

Let's keep a perspective. This is not rioting and violence.

It could very easily escalate to that though, I wouldn't be surprised.

When things go badly for a Democrat politician, like in this story, you will not see a party identification.

DEMOCRAT GOVERNOR!

Truly delusional. Lowlights, really. ;-)

Sometimes we laugh at their odd comments, it really is comedic, we think real people can't really say and mean this, it's just talk. The really scary part is that it doesn't seem like trash talk. Are they really this hate-filled? They seem to be. For just a moment I pictured this kind of hatred, animosity, among the followers of Stalin, Lenin, Hitler as they planned how to rid the world of those deemed undesirable.

bush and the rethug party need to BURN for this, these f*****ers need to pay until it hurts and then a lot more for this.

Yes, this tool believes that Bush has that kind of power over nature. And is willing to make him pay and burn. Twisted, scary people.
