I suppose this is a stupid question, but if 100,000 people have no mode of transportation.... why didn't they load them all on river boats yesterday and send them North up the Mississippi out of the path of the storm????

That is a great question. Took forever for the stupid Mayor to even issue an Evacuation Order which he did this morning. Should be criminal IMHO! They shut the airport so visitors could not get out either.

I was wondering about school buses, I'm sure it would be good to get them out of the way of the hurricane and they could transport a lot of people too.

I think the reality is probably lack of planning.

1)Where are you going to get the river boats.

2)It may only be 90 miles by road to Baton Rouge, but it is much longer via the river. And getting to Baton Rouge isn't going to do you much good. The storm is going to pound the towns upriver as far as Vickburg.

It's sort of like the earlier suggestion about using C-130s. It would only take 1000 of the planes to get the job done before the airport closed.
