There was another horrible story today--all the staff members but one abandoned their nursing home patients. Family members were struggling to get over there to assist.
That is a great question. Took forever for the stupid Mayor to even issue an Evacuation Order which he did this morning. Should be criminal IMHO! They shut the airport so visitors could not get out either.
Are you keeping those guys and girls informed?
That makes two of us. The only worse place I can think of right now is being stuck in the traffic jam on the Lake Pontchartrain causeway. If they don't get those people off of there, there is going to be a disaster of almost unimaginable proportions.

Hotels filling as far away as Little Rock; Ark. preps for Katrina

Associated Press WriterLITTLE ROCK — If Hurricane Katrina hits New Orleans and sustains its Category 5 winds as expected Monday, hurricane force winds could be felt as far north as Monroe, La., and Jackson, Miss.
That could force refugees from the storm even further north than usual, and hotels in Little Rock are already expecting a wave of customers on the run.
Ben Beaumont of the Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau said a sampling of hotels in the city showed that most were booked for Monday night, mainly with reservations from Louisiana.
The Holiday Inn Select and Hampton Inn both had refugees cancel reservations after deciding to stay closer to Louisiana, Beaumont said.
Little Rock is a 7 1/2-hour drive from New Orleans with no traffic, but all major highways out of the Big Easy were snarled Sunday.
Arkansas hotels along the Louisiana border were already full Saturday night with families fleeing the storm, which forced the first-ever mandatory evacuation of New Orleans on Sunday.
Six hotels in El Dorado and one in Smackover reported full bookings on Saturday.
At La Quinta Inn in El Dorado the front desk clerk said the hotel's 70 rooms were booked through Monday and Tuesday night.
"They're still calling and we don't have any room," the clerk said.
At the Best Western Hotel, clerk Carolyn Valentine said all 121 rooms were booked as well.
"They usually come all the way to El Dorado," she said. "We get mainly the Louisiana people from New Orleans and Slidell."
Arkansas volunteers prepared to help those put out of homes because of the storm.
Entergy Arkansas sent 80 linemen and 20 support workers to a staging area in Jackson, with 176 additional workers scheduled to leave Sunday for areas where they're most needed.
In addition, Entergy has to prepare for storm damage inside its Arkansas territory.
"We didn't send everybody, so we maintained a good baseline of workers at home," Entergy Arkansas spokesman David Lewis said Sunday. "If the storm hits us, it will be a matter of triage. Arkansas' first responsibility is to Arkansas customers, but sometimes we have to make a decision about where workers are needed most."
The American Red Cross said that it is using Little Rock as one of its staging areas to prepare to help victims. The Red Cross said between 80 and 100 emergency response vehicles set up positions in Little Rock on Sunday.

Given that Katrina has developed a very slight wobble in the last few hours (at least, that's what I think I've seen), it's still possible for her to edge westward towards NO.

I wonder if they mean the one-inch thick polyurethane elastomer coating was replaced. My house roof has the exact same coating. It is plenty strong in normal circumstances, but you can pick it apart with a screwdriver with no effort at all. At any rate, is is really not a structural element in a design like the Superdome.
