Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VII
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 8:10:23 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin conceded that as many as 100,000 inner-city residents didn't have the means to leave and an untold number of tourists were stranded by the closing of the airport. At this hour, people are still filing into the Superdome after security screening for weapons and contraband. National Guard have brought in 360,000 MRE (meals ready to eat) to feed the estimated 30,000 storm refugees in the Superdome.

I've been following the radar for the last few hours, to try to account for the wobbles. Overall, I have seen very little deviation from the due north path it's currently following, and that path would pretty much split the difference between your straightline and modeled approximations. But I'm just a dumb engineer and I don't do storm tracking for a living. :)

What does your trend analysis tell you?

To be honest, I don't know what post you're responding to or what you're talking about; so I guess you win that argument, whatever it was.

I think it is a multi factor issue. Many times where the hurricane didn't do the predicted damage or missed them completely.

Coupled with the fact that there must be families with priceless historical items in the collections. They know there will be looting.

Unfortunately, this time - they are going to be hit.

And insurance companies are going to face bankruptcy.

If it wasn't for the comic relief and recipes shared between reports I don't know how I would have lasted

So jokes are OK too.

What the heck,

My wife's birthday was yesterday, she wanted something that went from zero to 200 fast! So I bought her a bathroom scale.

Good night all. Prayers for the people of NO, LA, and Miss.

I cannot access FR from work, so I probably won't be on until tomorrow evening. I pray that the next post I make will not be a eulogy for the city of New Orleans.

What elevation are those generators?

How is the sewage going to work in the Super Dome if the city is flooded?

Doesn't look good to me...

Now you have really pissed off the FR bangers.

There they are, with their green visors, charts with circles and arrows, printers chugging away as more hp ink is poured in, working harder than you can imagine to remain real-time, up-to-date, on top of Doppler data and then you come along, in your pretty pink apron, with some loathesome recipe for Pot Liquor or some such rot and you just don't get it, do you, Miss Betty "bonfire" Crocker!

Get your biscuits in the oven and buns in bed.

Do you read me, Sparky?!
