Thank you, longtermmemory, and everyone else for the encouragement. I wanted to stay with the Marine Moms long enough to photograph them with the sheriff's deputies descending on the communist camp, but the heat was amazing. My car thermometer registered 105°F after we left Crawford. I estimated 108°F at the rally, but that does not reflect the "slam" of the heat where we were. It could have been, and probably was much hotter. I wish I had had a thermocouple with me. It took me two days to recover, and I was drinking water constantly.
