Easy to Please

I’m so easy to please, like a spoiled little child,
Pay attention to me! -- left alone, I grow wild.
But a pat on the head, or a touch on the cheek,
And I’ll sit very still, and you won’t hear me speak.

I’ll just twiddle my thumbs, with a nonchalant air,
As the gears in my head do their grinding up there,
So when you slip away, to attend to a chore,
I’ll be out of my chair, and be gone out the door.

Then when next I return, you will shriek in dismay,
At the mud everywhere, and the blood on display.
You may ask how it happened, though I won’t know a thing,
But behind all the torment, there’s a smile that I bring.

I know your friends say, “What a handful he is!”
To which I respond, “Golly Gee,” or “Gee Whiz!”
With a disarming smile, and a mischievous stare,
But if you had the chance, you would not change a hair.
