AT LAST
Susie saw a puppy, as shapes up in the sky, While Andy saw a playground set, as clouds went drifting by. I always see an airplane, the puffy cartoon sort, And dolphins slowly rising in the air to have their sport.
I see machines of war with guns of zephyred gauze, Whose misty substance drifts away, forgotten as their cause. I see a castle gleaming, in its rays of ruby rose, As the setting sun squints out its clear intention to repose.
The children always see the ducks, and gentle teddy bears, And one time Chrissy said she saw some golden stairs. Ive seen a pageant playing out, in silence, moving slow, A pageant filled with actors that I guess Ive come to know.
Sometimes as I am watching, when the kids have gone to bed, The music swells with drama as the footlights turn to red, When all the guests have come and gone, and after they have passed, I see a man in angel robes who shuffles off at last.
