Please drop us a note as to how they made out if you can. Yes. I will. I'm online with them now but, I'm sure, they will lose power fairly soon.

>>>NO mayor just told Larry King that the Superdome will "probably" be safe - it's a damn good thing there are not TVs there
Thing is - they don't really know.
In the end, it could be good for 1 thing: all those folks in 1 place, and identified - so they don't have to go out combing debris in search of corpses.

"And it was the president, I firmly believe, who finally convinced that idiot Mayor to issue a mandatory evacuation."
W/o even knowing his name or seeing his face, I know this major must be a complete moron when I heard him on the radio tonight.

"A hurricane...is an efficent way to disperse heat through the planet and then out into space".
So more hurricanes means the planet is warming up?
-- -- -- -- --
Not necessarily. But it doesn mean that the average energy, or heat, flow to the oceans (from Sol) is increasing. How it is accumulating is the debate on global warming. A hurricane is an incredibly efficient cooling engine for the oceans. In fact, the ocean's surface water behind a good hurricane like this one can be 5 to 10 degrees F cooler after it passes by.

Contamination in floods is always a a problem -- but in a big bowl like NO where much of the water would have to be pumped out over time -- I shudder.

Someday, we'll have to have a conversation about Sullivan's Hallow. I was "shocked" to see your posts about it...lol.

They had women with their hands over their heads being frisked like criminals. No wonder it's taking hours and hours to get in.

One NO TV station going off the air is not a sign of impending doom.
Now if WWL is signing off right now, I would worry.

Yes, Geraldo said "the big Hard". Trust me with this one.

I'm staying positive, I the engineers must have designed the Dome to hold at 200MPH, but I don't think they ever envisioned a direct Category 5 strike with 190MPH gusts.
Any engineers want to take on the cumulative reaction on the structure if it is a slow moving storm?

Ask Dennis Kucinch. The Cuyahoga burned for a long time. "Burn on, big river, burn on." - Makes me want to watch "Major League" again.

I agree--I LOVE Geraldo's cheesiness!
