Meehan blasts Bush
By Emelie Rutherford / Daily News Staff
Friday, August 26, 2005

U.S. Rep. Martin Meehan flew to the Middle East and Africa last night to see how America's war against terrorism is playing out, making him the second area congressman to visit the region this month to assess the status of insurgents and the U.S. military.

Citing the Bush administration's "failures in addressing the fundamentalist Muslim threat around the world," Meehan, D-5th, in a statement said it is his responsibility "to examine our efforts and to work on developing new initiatives."

The ranking member of the Terrorism Subcommittee of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee, Meehan planned to visit Israel, Lebanon, Cyprus, Egypt and Morocco with eight congressmen from both parties.

"I've grown tired of hearing rhetoric in Washington from the Bush administration," Meehan said. "I'm going to see firsthand what's happening on the frontlines to combat terror."

His to-do list includes examining the efforts to combat local terrorist movements, the level of cooperation of U.S. allies and the Middle East peace process.

Meehan's 10-day jaunt comes just two weeks after U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch, D-9th, spent five days visiting U.S. soldiers and officials in Iraq, Kuwait and Germany with two other congressmen.

Lynch said he cannot rely on the Bush administration's intelligence, and it is his responsibility as a member of Congress who votes on appropriations for the war in Iraq to have accurate data.

"There have been instances throughout this conflict where the intelligence we've received from the Defense Department and CIA is wrong," Lynch said in an interview. "How about the weapons of mass destruction? How about the assessment that we were going to be welcomed as liberators?"

During his recent visit to Iraq, Lynch said he got a strong sense for why the support of Sunni clerics in the forming of a new constitution is vital and how hard it is to fight an insurgency that is stronger in some regions than others...

Be nice. Long time Freeper, first time poster. Hope I did it right. I found it ironic how these Massachusetts pols can critisize the war, but say Bush isn't doing enough, and talk about how our troops are under equipped, and ignore how badly the Clintoons desimated the military.

Lynch said "it would be malpractice" for members of Congress to just sit at home and read briefings from the Defense Department.

Lynch is a member of the House Government Reform Committee's Subcommittee on National Security, International Relations and Emerging Threats.

Meehan and Lynch have traveled to Iraq additional times in recent years. During a 2003 visit, Lynch said he and other lawmakers inspected military vehicles and talked to members of the Marines and Army about a shortage of armor for soldiers and vehicles. When the group returned to Washington, D.C., he said, they requested more money for armament.

Lynch said in-person visits also allow lawmakers to
Sorry, here's page two. Like I said first time poster. I knew I'd mess it up.

see how fast equipment is delivered and get a sense of the insurgency's activity, political obstacles to peace and troops' morale.

"I think there's a tendency of the Defense Department for portraying morale to be better than it is," he said.

Lynch's district includes Dedham, Norwood, Walpole and Westwood. Meehan's district includes Hudson, Wayland, Sudbury and Maynard.

It is all these liberal fools can do. They have no plan, other than rampant socialism for the U.S. -- they cannot disclose their real agenda, so all they can do is criticize on a constant basis. No matter how good something is for this country, it will be criticized. They are socialist idiots, looking ONLY TO GRAB POWER AND CONTROL.

They care not a bit about America and its people. It shows daily.

The Bolshevik, Marty Meehan, member of the Red Rose, is a domestic enemy of the Republic and should be in prison rather than in Congress.

This guy is a pure political hack and is drifting along the same lines as the Cindy Sheehan spectacle.

How about the weapons of mass destruction? How about the assessment that we were going to be welcomed as liberators?

Well, how about them? They killed tens of thousands of Kurds and Iranians so we know he had them. He just got rid of the weapons before we got there...but the material to make them was found in abundance.

As to being welcomed as liberators...we were, and are by most of the Iraqis to this day.

CLICK ME

But this guy arleady knows this. He is not going over there to "find out" anything. He is on a mission and he has already stated the outcome before he even arrives.

God help us and preserve us from such in our own midst!

The left sat on their thumbs for eight years. Bush got in and the press was waiting for something to pile on Bush. He took action and went to war. The press and the left is saying come home and send more troops. The left is a do nothing bunch of cowards.

Good Luck on your continuing posts ;)

I live in Mass. and feel like I'm an operative collecting intelligence for the other side. the ratio is about 1 rational thinking American to 20 morons. These idiots just keep electing him, and Kennedy, and Kerry etc. You can't have a rational conversation with many of them because they have a knack for pulling facts out of there colon that have no credence.

I have a number of friends whio live in Mass. It is sad what has become of the cradle of our Republic. John and Sam Adams have long since completely rolled over in their graves.

"Frontlines?" Yeah, right. Does the Green Zone count as "front lines"?

Apparently this is the new message being tested by Democrats. Since 'Bush Lied' and "we are creating more terrorists" have not worked, they are now testing a new message that "Bush is not winning the war on terror because he isn't fighting it hard enough" and that "the troops don't have enough of the right equipment and are dying as a result." Bob Casey is already trying to use this message against Rick Santorum in Pennsylvania. It appears Rep. Meehan is doing the same thing.

We need to watch out for this and be prepared to hang these Democrats with their own words and actions. For example, I'll bet Meehan voted against the $87 billion supplemental appropriation in 2004.
