Earle lends passion to Iraq war protest near Bush's ranch - Steve Earle sings for peace advocates and soldiers' relatives near Crawford
COUNTRY MUSIC CRAWFORD, Texas When Steve Earle got his invitation to perform at the Camp Casey protest outside President Bush's Crawford residence the singer-songwriter asked organizers to think twice about their choice.
"I think this is the beginning of a mainstream movement against the war in Iraq, so I wanted them to consider who I am and the kind of lightning rod I can be," said Mr. Earle, who has a history of activism against the death penalty and who caused a stir in 2002 with the song "John Walker's Blues," which he wrote about captured American Taliban fighter John Walker Lindh in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. "I didn't want to be more trouble than I'm worth."

Steve Earle lends passion to drinking contests...
Coincedence?
I think not!
Breakdown Lane - Chevy's unlikely new pitchman (is Steve Earle)
Who is Steve Earle?
Oh brother. Well, his son didn't die in Iraq... open season folks. Be advised...this will not divert us from Cindy and the Moonbats.
To quote another anti-American artist..."Goodbye Earle>"
Those who are old enough to remember the largest protest marches against the Vietnam war may also reacll the high, or is is low point of the left..that was when, to much publicity and fanfare, inluding mention in the NY Times, with pictures.. a coven of anti-war witches announced that they would hold a protest and levitate the Pentagon into the air and make it disappear..I predict that soon they will appear in Crawford...promising to do the same to W's ranch
He was a talented country/new country (depends on the CD) singer whose lefty politics alienated people later in his career. Kinda went off the deep end. Then he wrote a song supporting John Walker Lindh (the American Terrorist who fought for the Taliban) and things just went downhill from there.
Not a bad musician though. But...yeah, his politics are unfortunate, to say the least. He has made some ambiguously anti-American statements in the past, as well as some pretty clear ones.
Only if the Socialist Workers Party is considered mainstream, Steve.
Did you play your song lionizing Taliban Johnny?
Copperhead Road
(Steve Earle)
Well my name's John Lee Pettimore
Same as my daddy and his daddy before
You hardly ever saw Grandaddy down here
He only came to town about twice a year
He'd buy a hundred pounds of yeast and some copper line
Everybody knew that he made moonshine
Now the revenue man wanted Grandaddy bad
He headed up the holler with everything he had
It's before my time but I've been told
He never came back from Copperhead Road
Now Daddy ran the whiskey in a big block Dodge
Bought it at an auction at the Mason's Lodge
Johnson County Sheriff painted on the side
Just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside
Well him and my uncle tore that engine down
I still remember that rumblin' sound
Well the sheriff came around in the middle of the night
Heard mama cryin', knew something wasn't right
He was headed down to Knoxville with the weekly load
You could smell the whiskey burnin' down Copperhead Road
I volunteered for the Army on my birthday
They draft the white trash first,'round here anyway
I done two tours of duty in Vietnam
And I came home with a brand new plan
I take the seed from Colombia and Mexico
I plant it up the holler down Copperhead Road
Well the D.E.A.'s got a chopper in the air
I wake up screaming like I'm back over there
I learned a thing or two from ol' Charlie don't you know
You better stay away from Copperhead Road
Copperhead Road
Copperhead Road
Copperhead Road
He is a country singer. He once had OK talent, and produced a hit song that is quite qood. I don't know the name of the song, but it start: "Hey pretty baby are you ready for me, I'm your boo right daddy down from tennesee". Anyway, he turned into a drunken, homeless loser for at least 10 years or so, and has since ressurrected himself out of the free press that he gets for singing anti-american songs.
Another of Stalin's useful idiots.
Ooooh, witches.
He looks a little faggish to me.
At least he's kicked the heroin.
