A global coalition of unions is launching an unprecedented campaign to organize workers around the world at US retail giant Wal-Mart, seeking to bring a new level of globalization to the labor movement.

The campaign aims to draw from labor organizations around the world to pressure Wal-Mart, the world's biggest retailer and largest private company in terms of revenues, and a frequent target of unions for driving down wages as well as prices.

Isn't a union's function to "aid" disgruntled workers? If Walmart employees aren't disgruntled then why bother.

Now for the real answer..... Unions can't stand anyone being successful without them getting a cut. Even when nearly every business that a union dominates is a disaster.

Walmart should be a socialist's paradise, but because it's not owned and run by government, it is technically a triumph of capitalism.

So they hate it, and it has to go....

The whole thing is about Union bosses getting cut off from what they see is a pot of gold.
Never mind that Walmart is the #1 inflation fighter in the U.S. and allows an increased standard of living for their customers plus forces competitive pricing pressure upon other retailers and manufacturers.
The biggest success story in retailing does not sit well with those Union bosses left empty handed and with empty pockets.

There's a congressman from MA, Mike Capuano (D) who has been on local talk radio SCREAMING for a boycott of Wal-mart because the workers are not unionized, the man made a fool of himself on the radio, very entertaining, good radio!

It's interesting to note how they attack Walmart, who employs LEGAL residents and citizens who pay taxes....but don't say a word about employers who hire illegals and pay them less than minimum wage - all under the table.

The same can be said about the NEA and their so-called "boycott" of Walmart. Where is the outcry from these groups against all the illegal, untaxed, Indentured labor?

Walmart employs LEGAL residents? That's a twist, at least here in NJ. Here walmart is for the illegals and staffed by the illegals.
