Valley Illegals Fear Crackdown Is Coming
KLASTV ^ | August 20, 2005 | Brian Allen

Arizona and New Mexico are under a state of emergency Friday night. The governors of both states made the declaration to free up money to increase Mexican border patrols. It is an effort to fight illegal immigration.

Illegal immigrants in Nevada say it's only a matter of time before a similar state of emergency is issued here. They fear being thrown out of the country, unable to make money from jobs they find here in the states.

Illegal immigrants in southern Nevada believe it's only a matter of time until authorities here crack down on them. Here in the valley, day jobs for illegals are starting to dry up. There's time when there's work and there's time when there's not.

The states of emergency in New Mexico and Arizona may have a dramatic effect on the influx of illegals into Nevada. Many cross the Mexican border into Arizona and then travel, or are smuggled up Highway 93 into Las Vegas and beyond. Nearly all are looking for opportunities to make money. "We only want to work we don't do anything wrong. If they hire us fine if they don't they don't."

This 2003 federal homeland security report guess-timates over 101,000 illegal immigrants live in Nevada. A UNLV study asserts illegals contribute 16 billion a year to our local economy.

"It's quite evident we have to focus our efforts, our priorities, our resources on the greatest risks." Russ Knocke with federal homeland security tells Eyewitness News, the current approach of trying to dismantle human smuggling rings is the way to go hoping to stop potential terrorists from entering the country.

But Arizona and New Mexico declaring these emergencies may force the government's hand to once again target illegal alien clusters in large American cities, like Las Vegas. "We intend to work as closely as we can based on the needs of the states."

The increasing risk and the increasing debate has some illegals thinking twice about having come here in the first place. "We wait here for awhile. If we don't find work we go back to Mexico." But until a crackdown begins, these men will continue looking for work, day-by-day, dollar-by-dollar.

A spokeswoman for Governor Kenny Guinn says there are no current plans to issue a State of Emergency for illegal immigration here. Eyewitness News has learned that next week the federal Department of Homeland Security will meet in Washington to discuss illegal immigration measures along the Mexican border.

Lost Wages, home base to "Sierra Harry" Reid, and liberal lunatic Shelly Berzerkly!
Lost Wages, AKA East East L.A!
Lost Wages, where EVERY fixed object is covered in gang banger graffiti, even many of the casino properties right on the strip!
Lost Wages, the only county in Nevada to require gun registration!
Lost Wages, where ALL the rest of the states water will go in just a few more years! The right of way for the pipe has been designated, funding is being organized NOW!
Lost Wages, which should have been "Built Out" years ago, but they just keep annexing more "public land" with Sierra Harry's help, and keep on building!
Lost Wages, which is now making Lincoln County into their bedroom community!
Lost Wages, which will completely control the state legislature before much longer, then they will move the state capitol, and seize control of the assets of all the remaining counties, all justified by their "compelling, growth driven needs"!
Lost Wages, the main reason our property tax's have skyrocketed over the past few years!
Lost Wages, the biggest magnet for illegals!
Lost Wages, home to the remnants of the "old school" mob and breeding ground for the "new" mob!
Lost Wages, where the tap water literally stinks!
Lost Wages, destroying traditional Nevada at every opportunity!
Lost Wages, home base to the liberal lunatic fringe!
Lost Wages, I wish they were a separate state, they ARE a cancer on the rest of Nevada!

I live in Douglas County, the most conservative county in the state, and the garden spot of Nevada!
While you suffer with 120º heat I enjoy temps in the mid 80's.
Instead of smelly Lake Mead we have Lake Tahoe!

Your envy is understandable.

WTF?

Multiple post were unintentional, I kept getting a "bad gateway" error message and retrying.

I did not see the multi-post until I refreshed the page!

Lost Wages, home base to "Sierra Harry" Reid, and liberal lunatic Shelly Berzerkly!,etc, etc, etc

All that, and it's still the most visited place on the planet. Imagine what it must have going for it to overcome all of those things.

I live in Douglas County, the most conservative county in the state, and the garden spot of Nevada!

We have the Bellagio, and you have what? A Motel 6?

While you suffer with 120º heat I enjoy temps in the mid 80's. Instead of smelly Lake Mead we have Lake Tahoe!

I wonder why we have 34 million visitors per year, and the fastest growing city for the past 15 years with no end in sight?

I wonder why 34 million people aren't visiting, and moving into Douglas county in numbers that eclipse almost everyplace else on the planet.

I'm sure you have your theories.

Your envy is understandable.

LOL. Yeah, envy. I live in the Entertainment Capital of th e world, the town that everyone all over the world clamors to come to. But I envy Douglas County.

Seriously, if I envied Douglas County, I would have moved to Douglas County. But I don't.

I do, however, respect you for sticking up for your hometown. Someone's gotta. I couldn't find Douglas County on a map. I would hazard to guess that few people could.

Lost Wages, destroying traditional Nevada at every opportunity!

Lost Wages, I wish they were a separate state, they ARE a cancer on the rest of Nevada!

BTW, Las Vegas *IS* Nevada.

85% of Nevada's population lives in Clark County. That is almost 9 out of every 10 people. Without us, Nevada would have the lowest population of any state in the Union. Your country exist in Nevada at our pleasure.

Most of us would gladly cede you to Idaho, if we even knew you existed.

This "solution" to the problem is about 20 years too late. They have scattered all over the USA.

Our gas problem would be solved in less than 10 days if the USA got serious about rounding up ALL the ILLEGALS and sending them back and sealing our borders. That would free up gasoline for the rest of us who belong here legally.......
Don't tell me that they don't drive. Try asking your insurance company how much the "UNINSURED" drivers insurance premium has gone up in the last 10 years......

Now if we can get every coastal and boarder state to do the same, we could have something.

Remember immigration was once controlled by the states....

"I couldn't find Douglas County on a map. I would hazard to guess that few people could"

Sadly, too damn many people have already found it!

Most of the old timers are moving out, the death tax and astronomical property tax increases continue to force ranching families to sacrifice acreage just to hold onto their home and a fraction of their former land holdings.

The new owners are invariably developers, leading to higher density and a declining standard of living.

Another couple of decades or less and the Carson Valley will resemble Lost Wages, or at least Reno.

I am glad you enjoy living in L.V., someone has too!
But it's still East East L.A. to me, and I avoid it as much as possible.

I have traveled to several countries and states, all of them were pleasant to visit, even Taiwan and Boston Mass., but that does not mean I would want to live in any of them.

You see that claim as a blessing, I recognize it as a curse!

I remember when Nevada had no set speed limit, you could shoot just about anywhere, deer tags were simply bought at will without the necessity of any lottery, tax's were LOW, etc.
Having the lowest population density in the nation was great while it lasted!

I would have no problem if Lost Wages would simply keep to itself, but their liberal appetite for taking away freedom from EVERYONE they can is manifesting itself in the legislature, along with their schemes to loot the rest of the state for their sole benefit.

I get your point, but as a refugee from Los Angeles, formerly a refugee from New York, I can tell you that taxes here are nothing compared to those places. There is no state sales tax whatesoever, and they even let you have a CCW permit here.

Vegas is getting to be a large city, so some of the crap that comes along with that is bound to piss off the old timers and I don't 100% blame you.

It's not what I would consider an overhwlemingly liberal city though. 85% of the people in Nevada live in Las Vegas, and the state managed to go red.

There are lots of people here who fled the blue states, FWIW.

Vegas does have problems ... but once you get more than 3 miles West of the strip, it really is a giant kid-friendly suburburban area that is just a 10 minute drive from the entertainment capital of the earth. I don't there are as many liberals here as you thinkg (though I am sure there are plenty here given the presence of 2 million people).

Seriously, I have heard that northen and central Nevada are nice. When it cools off and I don't have to worry about the Ford's transmission melting, I'm going to go up and check it out myself.

If you find yourself down here, I'll buy you a beer and we can argue in person ;-)

True but we'd have to get rid of quite a few liberals and rinos first to get anywhere.
