Rock Bottom

Read:
Psalm 119:65-72

It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn Your statutes. —Psalm 119:71

Bible In One Year: Jeremiah 47-49

cover I was in my early thirties, a dedicated wife and mother, a Christian worker at my husband's side. Yet inwardly I found myself on a trip nobody wants to take—the trip downward. I was heading for that certain sort of breakdown that most of us resist, the breakdown of my stubborn self-sufficiency.

Finally I experienced the odd relief of hitting rock bottom, where I made an unexpected discovery: The rock on which I had been thrown was none other than Christ Himself. Cast on Him alone, I was in a position to rebuild the rest of my life, this time as a God-dependent person rather than the self-dependent person I had been. My rock-bottom experience became a turning point and one of the most vital spiritual developments of my life.

Most people feel anything but spiritual when they hit bottom. Their misery is often reinforced by Christians who take a very shortsighted view of what the sufferer is going through, and why. But our heavenly Father is well-pleased with what He intends to bring out of such a painful process.

A person who knows the secret of the God-dependent life can say, "It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn Your statutes" (Psalm 119:71). —Joanie Yoder

Lift up your eyes, discouraged one,
The Lord your help will be;
New strength will come from Him who said,
"For rest, come unto Me." —Anon.

When a Christian hits rock bottom, he finds that Christ is a firm foundation.

Pinging you and a few others to a picture of my Nana from NYC(!) Her parents were Irish immigrants from County Cork, her name is Mary Broderick and she was known for being tough but good as gold.

I'm so happy I am able to spend some time here again.

I'm hoping I will be around a little more after this week. I re-scheduled all appts to this week to clear time for our OH/WV adventure.

Sometimes I wonder if my life will ever get back to normal. Last week, someone dropped another dog on our doorstep. :(

It would be easier to call the SPCA if Marissa would quit naming them. :) Now in addition to Louie/Max and Millie, we have Junior and Charley (a female).

I think that my Bro spread the word that we take in strays. :(

Thanks Amy. She moved South to Florida looking for work in her 20's where she met my grandpa (Joseph Villeneuve) in St. Augustine at the Spanish Fort. They had 7 children giving birth to her last child (my mom) at the age of 42. They weathered a few hurricanes not being able to see them coming the way we can now. I knew and loved her for a few years before she passed away at age 83.

Thank you, Your Honor, for our Daily Bread offering.

"Lift up your eyes, discouraged one,
The Lord your help will be;
New strength will come from Him who said,
"For rest, come unto Me." —Anon.

It is absolutely true we cannot function fully trying to be "self-sufficient"
and "fix" all our problems.

Only God is Mighty enough to do this the right way,
and waits patiently for us "to let go of our reins" - so HE CAN "REIGN"!!

Did you ever go to St. Augustine, Aqua?
It is one of the loveliest, most charming and interesting places,
historically, and one of my very favorites!
