One of the nation's leading experts on Islam says that "moderate" Muslims are actually a tiny minority of the entire Islamic movement, with most Muslims either being jihadists or supportive of jihadists.
Robert Spencer is the director of Jihad Watch and author of the book 'The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam and the Crusades'.
He says there is a gross misunderstanding about moderate Muslims.
"People talk about a tiny minority of extremists, [but] actually in terms of the truth about the Islamic world, it's the moderates who are the tiny minority -- not the jihadists," he says.
Spencer says while very few Muslims actually commit violence, the number of people who applaud the jihadists is much higher than most people realize -- and that, he says, could affect genuine reform efforts.
"Until we face this, we're going to be undercutting any genuine moderate Muslims as opposed to those who are simply trying to deceive westerners," the author explains. "We're going to undercut any actual possibility that they really have to reform Islam because they're denying that there's anything that needs reforming at all."
Spencer says that while there are moderate Muslims, Islam itself is not moderate.
This should be a DUH, but it's not, since POTUS and others are still being PC and calling Islam a religion of peace.
I support their efforts; all three of them!

Says it all. Slowly, the "behind-the-scenes" battle lines are being drawn in every culture. Non-muslims are beginning to get it, that these bast**ds cannot exist side-by-side with anybody....

In related news, the governing council of the Assembly of Moderate Muslims announced today that the death penalty will no longer be imposed for coughing during movie screenings, doodling, or having impure thoughts about Natalie Portman.
"Moderate Muslims" is an oxymoron.
Either they are Muslims - and follow Islam and their book, which says "kill the infidels" (a.K.a. all non-Muslims), or they are not.

Seems like everyone but the President and Condi have defined the enemy, but what can we do about it. Deportation isn't really an answer, except locally and nationally (it doesn't address the issue of Iran lobbing nuclear tipped missiles toward Tel Aviv).
Can all these Muslims be deprogrammed (and I'm not saying that is out of the question).
We on FR and others like Robert Spenser and Ali Hirsi and Ergun Caner know the depth of this problem. What should be our objective? How shall we define the enemy publicly so as to achieve the best political advantage and do the least political damage?
I think our leadership is avoiding the obvious and are mis-leading us. I have regularly argued that we should determine the truth and speak it regularly...and I have been chided by even good friends.
What do you think?

IF what spencer says is true why don't we see more incidences of terrorism in the world today? Why did the largest Muslim nation in the world hand the radical Islamic parties there head in the last elections? Why are Muslims fighting and dieing along side infidels today in Iraq and Afghanistan?
Spencers worldview does not jibe with the world as it really is.

Of course, I am always only speaking for myself. But I have many friends here on FR that for the most part agree as to the danger in Islam (and that was a post that was written to one of those like minded friends. I realize that doesn't include everyone and that it doesn't include you. But, as you know, you are in a minority.
I appreciate your view, but I don't agree it.
I tend to agree with Spencer and Hirsi Ali (as to the horrors inflicted on women by strict muslims), and with Ergun Caner as regards the view of a former muslim who has converted to Christianity.
I certainly agree with you that there are many good muslims in the world, and my fight is not with them. My disagreement is with muslims that seek to return to or spread militant (true) Islam.
Like Spencer said, in any religious reformation, the goal is to return to the original idea (to the founder). In Christianity, the goal is to return to Yeshua and in Islam it is to return to Mohammed.
I wish it weren't so, but Mohammed was a marauder, a rapist, a murdered, and established a violent, even demonic, example for his devout followers. A return to Mohammed can produce only trouble.
Anyway, you see my point.
But, as you know, you are in a minority.
If you mean the Islamic world is at war with us..I wonder if that's true?
I'm a conservative republican living in Mpls Mn., trust me I know what it's like being a minority! :-)
Put that way, you are correct...I would be in a minority. But many within Islam believe they are at war with the west and there are many on FR that also believe that.
I guess I misspoke...one of many errors I will make this day.
