A central player has voted with his feet in the drama over NARAL Pro-Choice America's decision to withdraw a television ad about Supreme Court nominee John G. Roberts Jr. that outraged conservatives had branded as false

Someone needs to tell the ComPost that is WAS false. This newspaper is the biggest waste of trees in the country. At least the NYT recently has admitted it has a bias problem/lack of ideological diversity in its staff.

Some Democrats said their side should be tougher, and one of them is David E. Seldin, who as NARAL's communications director had defended the ad's linking of Roberts to violent abortion opponents as "100 percent accurate."...The 37-year-old worked in the White House press office under President Bill Clinton and was communications director for Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.).

I hope the Roberts confirmation battle will teach the Republicans a lesson. If they (Republicans) ever learned to stand firm and grow a pair, the Left would collapse in front of our eyes.

Since, in that alternate reality called liberaland,
the bigger you screw up, the greater your esteem
with other libs, Seldin's career may be expected to
really take off now. Howard Dean's chair may even
be at risk.

Tell the director bye for us from all of us at FR. He needs to know how much we care.

Interesting tie to Wyden, who had his own whoppers to tell about Roberts.

Good riddance to bad rubbish is what I say. Kooks like that communications director still can't comprehend what they did wrong, for him and others it doesn't matter if Judge Roberts did or did not support abortion clinic bombers its that he has any contact with pro-life groups which in their eyes makes him just as bad as the clinic bombers. I think that groups like NARAL are on their last legs, they are no longer necessary and never were to begin with.
The great lie of women and back alley abortions that has led to the deaths of millions of innocents and the coursening of society is being rebuked and may the limbs of groups such as NARAL be ripped off one by one till they are left shuddering in the plastic biohazard bag of political oblivion.

I know this is gonna sound really improbable... but suppose NARAL wanted to get Roberts confirmed. How's this for a strategy: run an ad so offensive and transparently unfair that it actually makes Roberts look more sympathetic. Then you have somebody resign and "take the blame" and viola - Robert's path to the court is more clear. But really, I haven't seen anything to make me seriously question Roberts so I think we are getting a good deal no matter what NARAL does.

"I can spend the next two weeks in Cape Cod with my family relaxing, instead of trying to find a place with good cell phone reception."

Well, he sure ain't gonna find good cell phone reception on the cape, either.

gondramB, Wrap that tin foil a little tighter.

I can not imagine any scenario in which NARAL would subversively support Roberts. This ad (and the pulling of it) was a severe knee-jerk allergic reactions to Right thinking.

Of course, I was being sarcastic to the NARAL comms director, but please don't give them too much credit. You could hurt yourself, and it makes my brain hurt. (This man put his career on the line to make a point...You think he wasn't foaming at the mouth at the time, hoping it was going to actually do damage? Too clever by half if your hypothesis is even close to true.)

What pulling the ad and firing the comms director did prove is that, no matter what you may think on the abortion issue, lying, malificent, over-reaching, over-reacting demogoguery is stil transparent and its still punishable. Roberts is a great choice by any measure, and so they are reduced to this low level snarking...and this time someone got bit by their own dog. Too bad. "B-bye."

Sad news for Conservatives. NARALs ad showed how disgusting the abortionist Left is in this country.

I wonder if he has kids in his "family" and if they know Daddy works to make sure more babies are killed.

My thoughts exactly. How would you like to be a child of a person working for NARAL. Wouldn't you always think, "Gee, that could have been me! My mom/dad might have wanted to abort me." I would think that all children of NARAL employees would turn Pro-life just because of these disturbing thoughts.

" ....outraged conservatives had branded as false"....

Yeah. Exactly.

If there were harmful to a Republican, they'd say
"Post can now confirm/Post sources confirm that"

etc.

The ad wasn't a failure. By the standards of the Dim party recently with Hackett in Ohio, this was a 'near victory' for NARAL.

I think even calling it "my hypothesis" is giving it too much credence. I think it's most likely that NARAL's internal compass is so screwed up that they could see how offensive and transparent the ad. Rather that genuine conspiracy theory, my post was more like "wouldn't it be crazy if it was planned?"

I don't know if there are many West Wing viewers here since conservatives are portrayed so one dimensionally on that show but what I was actually thinking about was a West Wing episode where they want to blame deaths from a damn break on global warming.

A geologist in the administration is planning on making that claim with the understanding she will be sacrificing herself since the administration will slap her down in public. A senior aid (Will) says that won't get enough press and he volunteers to be the sacrifice instead. I know it's just TV but it got me thinking.

Anyway, I'm sorry I made your brain hurt. I'll try not to do that again.
