SHOTS FIRED! (Property owner reported to have fired gun in air near Camp Cindy)
Lone Star Iconoclast ^ | 10:15am (Central) August 14, 2005 | Deborah Mathews - reporting for The Iconoclast

Posted on 08/14/2005 9:36:45 AM PDT by tgslTakoma

Camp Casey is becoming very organized, with how-to signs placed about. Ann Wright said, "That's what we are trying to do."

Let me read you the schedule posted on a tree: "9:15 camp meeting; 10 a.m. inter-faith service, 10:30 a.m., "Food-Not-Bombs Breakfast at Peace House," and....

"Wait! Someone is firing a gun. (pause). He fired it into the air about five times. He appears to be a local inside the fence line on private property. Now he has thrown what looks like a shotgun into the front seat of a pickup, and he's stomping off out of sight. I wonder where he went.

"Now he's coming back out. I'm out here standing on the road. He's got a no parking sign in his hand, walking toward his fence. I'm going to go try to talk to him. I've got to hang up."

(three minutes later)

I went over and talked to the man. He is Larry Mattlage, who says he is on his property and just posted a no-parking sign.

"We're going to start doing our war and it's going to be underneath the law," he told me. "Whatever it takes. So y'all go find another place to do whatever you do. 'Cause this is our front yard and back yard."

I asked, "Do you mean the protestors?"

Wait.....now there's some Secret Service and cops. I'm going to get closer to hear what they're saying. People in bullet-proof vests are here now. Two Secret Service agents are now walking up his driveway towards his house, with Mr. Mattlage. A member of the Sheriff's Department has arrived. Mr. Mattlage is waving his arms now. All of them are now walking back this way.

Now they are between the lane and the house. He's at the fence now. Let me record what they are saying. I'll call right back.

Isn't this the local newspaper that endorsed Kerry? Suspicious report.

However, the truth is the truth, no matter the source.

"Food-Not-Bombs Breakfast at Peace House,"

LOL! Maybe what my diet needs is "Bombs-Not-Food" for breakfast ...

The property owner probably just wants those freaks off his land.

the Peace House is some sort of Lefty gathering place in Crawford. I think everyone is furnished a bed to crawl under.

Oh, now we're going to hear 'Cindy Sheehan braved gunfire to protest this illegal war' from now on.

They are a liberal paper, set up in Crawford after Bush's election in 2000; to be a thorn in his side.

Be that as it may, this is what they are reporting. If it turns out to be a false report, then the Iconoclast will suffer its "reputation" as a real newspaper.

If it's true, then Texas Freepers in the area could be sources for more info and follow-up on this story.

One other thing I noted in this report, is that people at Camp Cindy are posting messages and schedules on trees. Are those trees on public or private land? And are there any regulations in Crawford WRT posting bills in this way?

Not to mention the environmental damage!

I think everyone is furnished a bed to crawl under.

LOL And they have their "interfaith" services while under there. I wouldn't wanna be the one who has to clean the joint up (and clean the JOINTS up) after this weekend.

I think the guy got fed up with the protesters in his front "Yard". As the camp grew they must have taken over part of his property.

He must be sent to a re-education camp. He must learn that if the lefties need you land for a protest you have to give it to them. At least thats what they think.

Don't know.

I'm hoping that maybe some local Freepers can learn more and let us know.

However, the truth is the truth, no matter the source.

Nevertheless, the veracity of the truth is a function of the source.

The Peace House is a touchy, feely group who are going to bring peace to the world by understanding the "feelings" that bring about conflict. We can all get along if we would only talk, meet each other halfway, and tolerate each other's differences of opinion, don't you know? They have quite a following on the Baylor campus.
