Sheehan Responds to Her Family's Criticism
Vallejo Times Herald ^ | Saturday, August 13, 2005 | Robin Miller and AP

Posted on 08/13/2005 9:39:03 AM PDT by kristinn

Vacaville anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan noted Friday that some family members are "disagreeing with me in strong terms, which is totally okay with me, because they barely knew Casey.'

She was referring to her late son, Casey Sheehan, 24, who was killed in Iraq in April 2004. Sheehan's 48-year-old mother has been camped for days near Bush's Crawford, Texas ranch insisting on another face-to-face meeting with the president to protest the war. Sheehan and her family met with Bush in June 2004, but opted then not to question him about the war nor chastise him.

"We have always been on separate sides of the fence politically and I have not spoken to them since the elections when they supported the man who is responsible for Casey's death,' Sheehan wrote in her weblog about her in-laws. "The thing that matters to me is that my family - Casey's dad and my other three kids - are on the same side of the fence that I am.'

Sheehan told a reporter for an Austin, Texas, newspaper that she and her

husband, Patrick, have separated but said, "We both are handling our grief differently,' according to the newspaper.

"He agrees with the philosophy behind what I'm doing, that the war was wrong and George Bush lied, but he doesn't understand that I have a passion that I have to do this and this is the only way. If I can shorten the war by one minute and save one life, that would just give me so much comfort in my grief.'

Patrick Sheehan has declined to comment publicly about his wife's efforts. His family, however, issued a terse e-mailed comment on Thursday.

"We do not agree with the political motivations and publicity tactics of Cindy Sheehan. She now appears to be promoting her own personal agenda and notoriety at the expense of her son's good name and reputation,' read the e-mail signed by Casey's aunt Cherie Quartarolo on behalf of his paternal grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

"The Sheehan family lost our beloved Casey in the Iraq War and we have been silently, respectfully grieving,' the e-mail stated. "The rest of the Sheehan family supports the troops, our country and our president, silently, with prayer and respect.'

Meanwhile on Friday, President Bush and his motorcade passed the growing camp of war protesters outside his ranch without incident. As Bush passed on his way to and from a political fundraiser, law enforcement blocked two intersecting roads where the demonstrators have camped out all week. Officers required the group to stand behind yellow tape, but no one was asked to leave.

The motorcade didn't stop.

Sheehan held a sign that read: "Why do you make time for donors and not for me?'

It was unclear whether Bush, riding in a black Suburban with tinted windows, saw the demonstrators.

If I can shorten the war by one minute and save one life,

more likely, she is going to lengthen the war and get more soldiers tortured and killed, just like jane fonda.

cindy sheehan=jane fonda

And as Jeff Head has hinted, it is a safe bet Casey would not approve either.

LOL. Growing from 23 when Tony Snow's Surfer Boy was down there yesterday to what. If the numbers were big, they would be including them. Trying very hard to give this thing momentum, aren't they?

Casey's dad and my other three kids - are on the same side of the fence that I am.

Oh, really? Then where, pray tell, is Casey's dad, and why isn't he with you as you protest, Mrs. soon-to-be-divorced Sheehan? Excuse me if I question your honesty, but frankly I'm not sure you even know how to tell the truth these days--if you ever did.

Sure, Cindy. It wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that you're FULL OF CRAP now, would it? You don't help your case by being caught in lies and claiming to be a family spokesman.

If this witch was a member of my family, I'd be saying, "Hey, stay off my side!" too.

I was down there yesterday, arriving about 1830 hrs...and the press far outnumbered the sheethan goofies.... I can give her a tip...she might as well pack up and head for the White House and camp out there for the rest of his Presidency....because he is not going to see her again...come hell or high water.

Exactly! And do you think that the media and Ms. Sheehan would be hesitating for a second to pimp out her kids on this issue? Poor dad and the kids are probably in hiding right now.

His aunt/godmother "barely knew Casey"? It seems like I read on here yesterday an interview done with this aunt/godmother right after Casey died that said he spent quite a lot of time with her family.

Looks like the rest of the family is trying to maintain some dignity. I can respect them for that.

The question is did the mother know her son because he enlisted and then reenlisted...sounds like her son could of also been on "separate sides of the fence politically" from his mother

Mrs. Sheenan is the focus of the press and they and she and her Code Pink, MoveON.org , and Michael Moore friends think they have found an unassailable individual because they are using her status as a grieving mother. Well, here's what the "grieving" mother has to say about her own son's voluntary sacrifice and last full measure of devition:
One of the questions I was going to be asked was: Do I think my son's sacrifice was "worth it?" In answer to the original question Larry: No it wasn't worth it!!

Apparently, she and her son disagreed.

Here are some of her other comments:

This war was sold to the American people by a slimy leadership with a maniacal zeal and phony sincerity that would have impressed snake oil salesmen a century ago.

The 56,000,000 plus citizens who voted against you and your agenda have given me a mandate to move forward with my agenda. Also, thanks to you and your careless domestic policies, I am unemployed, so this will be my full-time job. Being your political downfall will be the most noble accomplishment of my life and it will bring justice for my son and 1125 (so far) other brave Americans and tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis your lies have killed. By the way, George, how many more innocent Iraqis are your policies going to kill before you convince them that you are better than Saddam? How many more of their cities are you going to level before you consider that they are liberated?

George, I must confess that I and my family worked very HARD to re-defeat you this time, but you refuse to stay defeated. Well, we are watching you very carefully. We are going to do everything in our power to have you impeached for misleading the American people into a disastrous war and for mis-using and abusing your power as Commander-in-Chief. We are going to scream until our last breath to bring the rest of our babies home from this quagmire of a war that you have gotten our country in to
At some point...it stopped being grief and it became hate. As the American public becomes aware of this...they will not abide her IMHO.
