Local Woman Faces War Protestors in Texas
Two women with strong ties to the war in Iraq and opposing views. Cindy Sheehan of Texas lost a son to the war. She's been protesting outside the President's ranch in Crawford, Texas for a week now demanding a face-to-face meeting with the President. And Miriam Eve Tidwell of Columbus has a son-and-law overseas.
Eve Tidwell says she traveled to Texas not face off with Ms. Sheehan, but to show support for her son killed in Iraq and all soldiers. Dr. Jack Tidwell is backing his wife, saying we all should be proud of our soldiers for what they have done, not bury their dedication and sacrifice in protest.
Mrs. Tidwell left Columbus early Friday morning and with homemade signs in hand she defended a soldier's willingness to die for our country. "We make a choice don't we, for what ever reason we make choices, life is a choice." Her son in law made the choice to defend our country and so did her husband. Dr. Jack Tidwell served 29 years with the Army Reserves retiring as a Lt. Colonel. He says, "I'm so tired, tired of this fussing and fighting about the war."
It was just two days ago the Tidwell's decided Eve would travel to Texas. Both believe our soldiers are heroes not victims, including Ms. Sheehan's son. "God bless her I mourn for her but we are in a war and we cannot go on and on with this hurting the morale of our soldiers," says Dr. Tidwell. Many of whom who have grown up believing in America and that faith has carried the one couples message to the President's ranch.
There are other military supporters outside the the Texas ranch. Even so, Dr. Tidwell says he may soon decide to join his wife. But it would only be to provide more support because even through the emotion he joked, "my wife can certainly take care of herself."
