For the past year, I've been working at Ft. Bliss. Our work primarily consists of sending the troops off and bringing them home. Needless to say, the latter is the better part of our job.
Our facility is where our POW's came home and where the memorial service for the 507th (Jessica Lynch's unit) was held. All of their pictures hang in a place of honor, on the wall. I pass those pictures several times a day and frequently pause to pay my respects. The CSM who was charged to "call the roll" at that memorial service, is a friend. I also had the honor and privilege of meeting and spending some time with Sgt. Jim Riley, one of the POW's who made it home.
My point? I've had personal contact with hundreds of soldiers, in the past year; young and old; officers, NCO's, and raw recruits; regular Army, Marines, and Air Force, Reservists, and National Guard. Not a single one has ever indicated that they didn't want to go or they didn't believe in what we, as a nation, have been forced to do. Too many people have already forgotten September 11th. Ask any of our brave servicemen and women, and you're likely to get an answer along the lines of; "We didn't start it, but we're damn sure gonna finish it."
I'm humbled to be in their presence.
Regards, to you and yours. Hope all is well.
Cindy Sheehan and her activities are now the pster child of Al Jeezera and Irqi insurgent sites. The vry people who killed her son are the ones promoting her activities. So very sad...so very sick.
