Staff members of the Sept. 11 commission are investigating allegations by a GOP congressman that lead hijacker Mohamed Atta had been identified as a potential threat by a highly classified Defense Department program a year or more before the attacks occurred.

Commission officials confirmed a report in yesterday's New York Times that two staff members interviewed a uniformed military officer, who alleged in July 2004 that a secret program called "Able Danger" had identified Atta as a potential terrorist threat in 1999 or early 2000....."

"....Panel investigators viewed the claim as unlikely..."

"..Weldon recently published a book...Many of the allegations are based on information from a source discounted by the CIA as a fabricator."

The WP is giving a prelude to what I suspect will be its usual oily spin on this. MSM business as usual.

I'd hate to be a subordinate around Lard Legs about now. You can bet that the "hits" have been ordered. This IS a defining moment in the Beast's political career, and all the armies they have and all the favors owed, will be called to action to protect her.

NYT, WaPo, AP...MSM coverage has started (very weak) but it has started. I'm still hopeful.

The spin started in the first sentence. That these are "allegations by a GOP congressman". These are NOT his allegations, they are from his intelligence sources, several.

Panel investigators viewed the claim as unlikely in part because Atta was not recruited as an al Qaeda operative until a trip to Afghanistan in 2000 and did not enter the United States until June of that year, officials said.

Is this true?

Bush will try to shut down Weldon on this. Wait and see. Weldon better announce hearings right away before the WH gets to him.

Didn't the 9/11 commission release its report a long time ago and go out of business?

Is that staff still hanging on? (Like the temporary telephone tax they instituted in 1897 or thereabouts, during the Spanish-American war. But least they are trying to kill that. Again.)

Bill Clinton had a choice.

He had a choice between fooling around with Monica

or taking out Mohammed Atta.

He could have taken out Osama bin Laden.

He choose Monica.

3000 Americans dead.

1000's injured.

Children left without Mom's or Dad's.

Parents left without their children.

War starts.

President Bush must defend and protect our country.

The left screams in bitter vitriol against our President.

President Bush had a choice too.

He had a choice between fooling around with America's National Security or sending the terrorists to Hell.

Soldiers defend and protect our nation and freedom.

They have sacrificed their lives for us.

All because Bill Clinton had a choice but his choice gave us this hell.

President Bush said America " Will Not Falter".

"Will not Fail".

"We Will Hunt'em Down".

And, that by George, we are.

God Bless America.

God Bless her brave and mighty Armed Forces.

Godspeed.

We know you are making the right choice.

Keep On Fighting On! Because America Stands Tall For You!!!

Oh please, a Mass rich snob? The Pres should have killed him 2 to 1.

This story is nothing, rational people understand that Clinton wanted no part of boots on the ground to fight terrorism, because he understood that Americans would not stand for it for as long as it would take, they are soft.

And he understood that his poll # would be squashed with every death, so he chose to use law enforcement.

Everyone also understand the obvious, that our intell is crap when is comes to terrorists, since we have no spys that speak the language.

The commission was set up to undermine the election and Bush, and it did.

And the NY liberals that are the US media will never allow the US use its enormous military power, and win.

Never.

I don't disagree with most of that, but your blanket statement that the leftist media decides everything is simply untrue, and needed to be gently poked.

[emphasis added]

The astute reader will notice that it was the 9-11 Commission Staff members who allegedly withheld this info from the Commissioners in the first place. Ergo, we have have a case of the alleged perpetrators being asked to investigate their own wrongdoing.

That sure imbues me with confidence in the predictable results of this "investigation" .....

The arrogance of the MSM leaves me truly awestruck.

Sandy Burglars Pantyraid - Hardly reported on.
Air America's Financial Finagling - Barely reported.
9/11 Commission Excludes key piece of Evidence - Crickets chirping.

Essay; Inside The Bunker

By WILLIAM SAFIRE (NYT) Op-Ed 727 words
Late Edition - Final , Section A , Page 27 , Column 1

ABSTRACT - William Safire Op-Ed column on activities at President's Emergency Operations Center, underground facility hardened to withstand blast overpressure from nuclear detonation, to which Secret Service brought Vice Pres Cheney and other high administration officials after World Trade Center attack;

says Secret Service received threat that 'Air Force One is next,' and that is why they did not allow Pres Bush to return to White House immediately; says most troublesome question is ****how did terrorists get code-word information**** and transponder know-how that allowed them to convey their threat; says knowledge of code words and presidential whereabouts and possession of secret procedures indicates terrorists may have mole in White House, or informants in Secret Service, FBI, FAA or CIA (M)
