The husband of Terri Schiavo was honored by a group that advocates guardianship services for his years-long efforts to get his wife's feeding tube disconnected.
Michael Schiavo was given the Guardian of the Year Award by the Florida State Guardianship Association yesterday.
Terri Schiavo lived in a persistent vegetative state for 15 years before dying in March. She died after a protracted legal battle between her husband and her parents over her end-of-life wishes.
She died from dehydration after her feeding tube was disconnected.
A Franciscan friar who serves as the Schindler family spokesman Brother Paul O'Donnell said the award was offensive.
They said Michael Schiavo was a controversial choice, but they decided to honor him because of his commitment to honoring what he says was his wife's wish to not be kept alive artificially.
Good grief. Now we're giving murderers awards? How bizarre. This world has turned upside down.
Hey! If I go home and beat my children, perhaps mortally wounding one or both of them, maybe I'll win Father of the Year!! Oh, goodie!
I suppose next we will see O.J. Simpson receiving a Nobel Peace Prize. What kind of 'Guardianship' does this organization promote if Michael Schiavo is deserving of their award?
The inmates are running the asylum.
Sickening. How could he accept something like that?
Tell me about it, the last time I took food from my wife, she just punched me and took back the oreos.
later sick puppy pingout.
Let them know how you feel about their award for this Monster:

Sickening.
His desire to keep her family and cameras away from her was the key to this win.
Idiots.
Claus Von Bulow was a runner up.
You can't make this stuff up.
too bad terri schiavo wasn't a rich northeastern socialite.
And, how could they offer it to him in the first place?
More daily spam and tabloid news. Who cares?
(Denny Crane: "Sometimes you can only look for answers from God and failing that... and Fox News".)
