When this act passed in 1965 it was to prevent voting rights being squashed by racist DEMOCRATS. No one wants to remember that. They cannot produce one shred of hard proof that Bush or any Republican is trying to deny voting rights to anyone but they spout off this vile rhetoric anyway, like the robots they are.
I really got a good laugh though out of the comments on Bush stealing the election in '04. The white media said it. LOL!!

Someone needs to send him a dictionary too. Me thinks he was searching for "traitor" instead of "tyrannt". But then he obviously doesn't have a clue!

This Banana man is beneath contempt. Mr. B came here, made a fortune with his music and TOOK from America. He lives his life here, and now trashes this country. How many Hollywood types have done this....in the name of PATRIOTISM?? They use their career names and present themselves as the politically astute. America needs strength of its people in this time of danger, and Harry Belafonte has shown himself to be a coward. Leave if you can't do anything but trash this country, Mr. Banana Man. You have shown your colors to be treason!!

One gets the impression that Mr. Belafonte is stone cold dumb. But it's just an impression ...

US Rep. John Lewis US Rep. Maxine Waters, Harry Belafonte, Rev. Jesse Jackson, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelose. combined I.Q. = 5 What exactly upsets them about having to prove you are who you say you are before you vote?
The only way I can figure anyone would be upset about having to show ID at a polling place is if you're trying to cook the books.....
To: Tax-chick
Let's just be generous and say he is senile- like the other "noteables" that showed up.

The only argument I've heard is that it could disenfranchise the infirm elderly and the most extremely poor, because they may not have access to get a state-issued ID card. There is *some* merit to that idea. The Governor has said that he would make it as easy as possible for people to get the ID (if needed - after all, most already have a driver's license). Saturday, his office announced that mobile units would be made available and dispatched to places like senior's centers, and presumably other "disadvantaged" areas to facilitate the ID.

What does that entail? I can't think of any "tyranical" experience on my resume...

Yes... If memory serves me correctly, I believe it was a certain "Mr Tallyman". Not that he be givin' the massuh his props or anyting like that.

All in all, I think that it's a good idea.
What surprises me is how badly the usual suspects, Jesse et al, have misread the intent of this proposal. It doesn't have anything to do with trying to disenfranchise African Americans. It has everything to do with a) keeping illegal immigrants from voting and b) reducing overall voter fraud.

These people are all famous and wealthy. They can do whatever they want to do whenever they want to do it. In a free country they have all done very very well. How could that be if what they say is true?
Odd, isn't it? These people have become wealthy partially because they are black and they bitch and moan about being oppressed or whatnot because they are black? Huh? Hello!
Take Jesse Jackson for example. The guy has never had a job but he rides in limos and private planes and has skanks stashed all over the country. Minister schminister!
What a racket these poverty pimps have!

Harry's brain wave activity looks like the road from Dallas to Ft Worth. Everytime he goes to sleep, someone puts a tag on his toe.
I can't believe people would take him seriously as a politician.

"Once upon a time, I admired some of these people. I really did."
I also once did. I used to admire the early Civil Rights leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr. The ones now aren't even rational. MLK must be turning in his grave.

Harry B stated:"Hitler had a lot of Jews high up in the hierarchy of the Third Reich. Color does not necessarily denote quality, content or value," Belafonte said in an exclusive interview with Cybercast News Service.
What? Name one Jew high up in the hierarchy of the Third Reich?
For the most part this weekend's protest was to remind everybody we still need civil rights legislation after 40 years (Barf) Also, if we don't support printing ballots in different languages, we are bigots and racists.
The Civil Rights act of 1964 was a needed piece of discrete legislation. We don't need continuous improvement to the bill. It's time for the Black community to stop producing babies at a 75% illegitimate clip, buckle down and go to work. I've seen too many of my white male friends never make it to the police force or fire department because they were the wrong color or race. It's time to stop lecturing white males about how evil they are.
